http://oscar.go.com/nominees?cid=AMPAS_oscarnominees Not much of a surprise that it was shut out of the Best Picture race, but even then, it's the first time Bond has been nominated at all since 1983, when the For Your Eyes Only title track got a nomination. Also, five nominations is by far the most a a single Bond has ever had, more than doubling Goldfinger 's two. Even without a major nomination, the franchise only had seven total prior to this year. Skyfall did well. |

The *FACT* that every major trade outlet is referring to Skyfall as having been "snubbed" does speak to the chances some industry insiders thought that maybe, just maybe, the film might pick up a few acting nominations. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't recall seeing an aggressive ad campaign by SONY to get SKYFALL into the voters consciousness. Oh well. I guess it'll just have to make do with 5 noms and 1 billion dollars in gross sales. I'm sure Babs and Michael are crying themselves to sleep every night (in different beds, though), using real $100 bills to wipe away the salty tears of another mega- successful failure. |

| Very interesting. Congrats to Newman.
Also goes to show that the Academy doesn't know too much when it comes to the 'lesser' categories, considering great Bond scores were snubbed through out the last 50 years. I'm guessing Williams or Desplat will snag the award, though. |

| Why didn't they announce the other categories during the vid?? So 5 isn't so bad, I suppose. Though I'm thinking Anna Karenina's cinematography would be special, too.
Interesting how Newman's score gets an Oscar nod... Really wasn't that great compared to many other Bond soundtracks... Though maybe that's saying more about the quality of soundtracks in the past year... |

| The Oscars, like the Nobel prizes for Peace and Literature, are a joke, albeit a very important joke. |

Because the beloved, big-name celebrities aren't associated with those categories. Generally, nobody gives a fuck about people like Thomas Newman, Roger Deakins, Per Hallberg or Karen Baker Landers. If Jennifer Lawrence also composed the score to SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK, they would have probably announced the nominees in that category. - Quote :

It's no YOLT or OHMSS, but works as a solid, modern Bond score. It was far better than the scores to the other big blockbusters of this year, too. |

| I'm happy by the BAFTA and American Academy news for SKyfall. I think Skyfall was realistically only snubbed in the Supporting Actor category.
Nothing for Dark Knight and just visual effects for Avengers... that's a lot of fanboys drinking their sorrows away. :D |

In all reality, Skyfall might be the most successful Bond we get from here on out when you combine reviews, box office and awards. Hell, it pretty much already is the most successful Bond ever. |
