| I just finished watching ZERO DARK THIRTY! The Academy Awards are fucking rigged! This movie should have won Best Picture! Jessica Chastain should have won Best Actress! Kathryn Bigelow should have won Best Director! The only reason this movie was totally snubbed by the Academy is because we have Obama in the White House! It's all fucking Bullshit Politics! :suspect: The only useful and good Terrorist is a Dead Terrorist! p.s. I want a strong No BS woman like Maya who looks like Jessica Chastain

| Seriously, Politics Aside!
How can they even consider LIFE OF PI a better movie than Zero Dark Thirty? |

| The film didn't really blow me away, so I'm not too upset about it not winning best picture. |

Did you see Life of Pi? If you have, which one would you say it's a better movie? |

| Why did you delete the bit about there being a Muslim in the White House? I thought it was the highlight of your thesis. |

It's all fucking Bullshit Politics!
:suspect: This stands out as a perfect example of j7's logic: ZERO DARK THIRTY didn't win the Academy Award because Barack Obama - who has no power over the Academy at all - is President ... even though Obama will be remembered as being President when the events of ZERO DARK THIRTY occurred, and therefore it would be in his interests to see ZERO DARK THIRTY win Best Picture. Ironically enough, the film that did win Best Picture dramatises events that happened on the day Jimmy Carter - who, like Obama, is a Democrat - entered office. |

If you have, which one would you say it's a better movie? I haven't seen Life of Pi (and I honesty have no interest in seeing that), and I'm not sure what your point is since that didn't even win Best Picture, which was Argo. Here's how I'd rank what I saw: Argo Lincoln Silver Linings Playbook Zero Dark Thirty Django Unchained |

| Chastain was absolutely snubbed, and should have won best actress, that much I will agree with you on. The rest....well...I'll leave it at that. |

Nope, the hostages were released on the day of Ronald Reagan's inauguration. |

| Actually the movie isn't about the hostages, it's about the six that were in hiding and the CIA trying to get them out of Iran before they were discovered. |

| Silly me, forgot Argo's plot entirely for a second there.
Got confused when PM mentioned a president entering office on the day of the film's events. Jimbo Carter had already been in office for two years prior to the Iranian shemozzle. |

Ironically enough, the film that did win Best Picture dramatises events that happened on the day Jimmy Carter - who, like Obama, is a Democrat - entered office. Obama approved the operation to kill Bin Laden because his Presidency was on the line. Just another stepping stone for him to get re-elected. Throughout history, powerful men have betrayed their own people to get to where they want to be. Osama is Muslim but he was willing to order the assassination... sorry, military operation... to eliminate another Muslim so his approval ratings will go back up. You are just so naive, aren't you? |

| FWIW, it also ends with a speech by Carter during the credits. |

| Right, sorry. My mistake.
What I meant to say is that ZERO DARK THIRTY portrays events that happened during Barack Obama's presidency. j7 claims that the film did not win Best Picture because Obama was President, which implies that this was because he directly influenced the vote, which is impossible, because he doesn't have that power.
The alternative explanation is that ZERO DARK THIRTY did not win Best Picture, because the Academy wanted to stick it to Obama. This is implausible because they chose ARGO as Best Picture, which dramatises the Iran Hostage Crisis. It ran from November 4, 1979 to January 20, 1981, and during this time, Jimmy Carter was in office. Carter, like Obama, is a Democrat.
It is therefore highly unlikely that the Academy snubbed ZERO DARK THIRTY to show what they thought of Obama, because showing a Democrat President that they think he is a bad President by choosing a film that dramatises the events of another Democrat President's time does not make sense.
Therefore, j7 has once again descended into his usual brand of rabid insanity. |

Just another stepping stone for him to get re-elected. Or, he approved the operation to catch or kill bin Laden because the CIA had found him, and holding onto that information for political power would likely cause a scandal that would make Watergate look like nothing more serious than someone peeing in their neighbour's pool. - j7wild wrote:

You are just so naive, aren't you? No, I just haven't been eating the yellow snow. Where is your evidence that Obama is Islamic? |

| In Jay Sevenistan:
- Obama only killed Osama to get praise and be re-elected
- Zero Dark Thirty portrays the death of Bin Laden, an operation for which Obama is lauded
- Despite the fact that Obama gets positive publicity over the killing of Bin Laden, Obama ordered the Academy to not award Zero Dark Thiry the Best Picture Oscar because... <blank> |

Mostly during Bush's presidency, though. - j7wild wrote:

Jessica Chastain should have won Best Actress! Agreed. Great film. Much more to it than killing Osama and "winning the war on terror". |

| Argo is revisionist history anyway. The whole operation was a Canadian Operation. Canadian ambassador Ken Taylor was the hero. Jimmy Carter even says so. It was reported as such at the time too. It's not a secret. Affleck promises he will acknowledge reality in the blu-ray extras. He's being good about it. He's already recorded lengthy interviews with Ken Taylor for the blu-ray. Affleck took a good story and re-jigged it for the American audience. |
