always like the start.
"And so like a thousand commanders on a thousand other battlefields, I wait for the dawn."
Man that's nice. Maybe it is worthwhile to try tracking that over the 'readying for battle' montage in TWOK, just for the sake of comparison. I've always wondered how TWOK would have gone if they'd kept JG onboard (not that they could have afforded him, Meyer told me they couldn't even afford Horner for TUC, which is when I suggested in vain that he hire Christopher Young on the basis of his unused JG-like stuff for INVADERS FROM MARS.)
I wish I had the tech know how to do that. Closest I've ever gotten was putting From the Earth to the Moon over Atlantis' blast off in August and that took forever as I was trying to find the right stuff. I'm a Windows Movie Maker swine alas :)
TWOK with Goldsmith would've been quite something we might've had something along the lines of Insurrection/Nemesis' action pieces mixed with the 'humanity' sound we get for First Contact, the Ba'ku in Insurrection and the odd moment in Nemesis ("My Right Arm" and I think its "Ideals").
As for Horner in TUC, no surprise. I understand Meyer wanting him for perhaps some continuity with TWOK/Meyer. Eidelman did an alright job, the overture is stirring in its way. Kind of would have liked Horner for his main theme and his Spock music. I know Horner was I believe rejected for Star Trek IV as Nimoy had been after Rosenman anyway for III. Alas, I've not heard much of Young so I'll go a looking at some point and theorise almost like a Nicholas Meyer helped Star Trek Nemesis.

Thank goodness Rosenman didn't do III.

I wish Lenny did II and III.

of course you do. Blame Nick Meyer for II. As for III, Rosenmann was otherwise occupied. Probably should've done VI and Generations as well.

Young is principally an electronics guy, sort of Ron Jones w/o the melodies as I recall (I used to have the SEPTET CD of his.) But the unused INVADERS FROM MARS stuff is Goldsmith/MrMilitary in that Swarm/Twilight'sLastGleaming/late 70s kind of way I love.

He was in the 80s, but from then on he mostly did orchestral stuff . He's a superb orchestrator too (and I don't mean the job of orchestrating - I'm talking about the quality of his sketches), and has a wonderful gift for harmony. His standouts from the 80s would probably be HELLRAISER and FLOWERS IN THE ATTIC, and he also created arguably one of the finest action scores of the last decade - THE CORE.

Ah, I see. Thanks for the info Trev and the music Sharky.
The way that first track starts off reminds me of stuff for disaster movies. A sweeping shot of say the Poseidon amidst towering waves...
See if he'll score Airport 2013 or Raise the Titanic 2014....

So I gave a birthday wishlist to my family, I never make wishlists. One of them was for the CD soundtrack to MIDNIGHT COWBOY. Woke up the next morning to find that very CD sitting on my drawer. I should have known my dad already had that, he's a music aficionado with thousands of CDs and LPs.
Very glad to have it, and I still have my birthday to look forward to.

Nice. Reminds me that next week will mark the 1 year anniversary of Barry's death. F***IN' shame.

I'll probably bulk up my collection with some of his albums soon, as well.
Still need MIDNIGHT COWBOY, CHAPLIN, and AMERICANS.
I'd buy his Moviola re-recording, but honestly don't care for the sound quality. Perhaps Spotify just offers a shoddy version, though.

I still have some ways to go as far as my Barry collection goes. I have my eyes set on THE LION IN WINTER at the moment.

Stay clear from the Nic Raine rerecording. I believe he transcribed it all by ear, which is why certain chords are wrong.

Saw earlier that Intrada should have the Star Trek IV Expanded back within a fortnight. Not bad saying a few weeks ago they reckoned April. Re-listened to one of the sample tracks, the alternate theme and it's a much classier version of the TOS theme than used in XI on the end credits.

Maybe Edwin, maybe.
Not bad looking at the track listings. Original CD had 11 tracks but this is 24, even includes that punk song. Should be worth the cents. Saying I brought the II/III Expanded I might as well. Wish I could get my hands on the Ron Jones Project...probably through SOPA inducing means.
