| So, we're a dirty dozen years into this century of cinema, and most of us have watched a good few hundred if not thousand of films from this era. Please feel free to list or rank your favourites and give your rationale if you want. Which films have stood out the most in your eyes? Do you think any will be classics for generations to come?
Here are my top 10:
1. Amélie (Jeunet) 2. The Lives of Others (Henckel von Donnersmarck) 3. Pan's Labyrinth (Del Toro) 4. Les triplettes de Belleville (Chomet) 5. The Return (Zvyagintsev) 6. Into the Wild (Penn) 7. City of God (Meirelles) 8. Holy Motors (Carax) 9. Snatch (Ritchie) 10. The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (Schnabel)
Honourable mention to a few Hollywood blockbusters: Gladiator, the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and the Craig Bonds (well, two of them anyway).

| I'll have to check back because I'm blanking at the moment. I'm trying to think of what films might be talked about 30 years from now that I've already seen. |

| MULHOLLAND DR. is one that came to my mind, too. As for SKYFALL, it's bizarre to have a newer Bond film that I'm not complaining about.
Jesus, I've not seen BAD SANTA in years. A sequel is coming apparently. We'll see how that turns out. |

Funnily, no one has mentioned Nolan's Batman trilogy, or at least The Dark Knight. I'm sure that film would be near the top of the list if such were compiled by most entertainment critics/websites/magazines/bloggers,etc. I personally don't think The Dark Knight will be considered all that jazz in a few decades. I don't remember much of Memento - I saw it only once and at too early an age, so it didn't sink in much. |
