I thought the parallels through out SKYFALL were the most interesting bits of the film. Mendes, Deakins, and Logan applied these through dialogue, sound, and imagery.
One of the most interesting examples was the visual connection of M, Bond, and Silva through the windows of vehicles as they traveled the streets of London. Note that Bond and M were shot on the same side of the vehicles, while Silva was shot opposite them.

Adele's lyrics also connected the characters, in my opinion, as I think the title song could work for both Silva and Bond, and their relationship to M. Silva appearing in the title sequence might support this, as well.
This added a depth to the film that didn't exist in the two previous Craig flicks. It was nice to see a bit of brains behind the direction and story, rather than trying to make the film "dark, gritty, and deep" by polluting it with senseless violence.
