| I was thinking about Gottfried John earlier after hearing of his recent passing and started thinking about how fantastic he was in GE. Then I started thinking of GE and how the cast in that really is quite strong all round. Which Bond films do you think had a really good ensemble of actors? Mine:
From Russia With Love: Connery, Lenya, Shaw, Armendariz, Gayson, MI6 crew and Bianchi turning in a good performance as well! For Your Eyes Only: Moore, Topol, Glover, Harris, Bouquet. Goldeneye: Brosnan, Scoropcu, Jansenn, Bean, Gottfried, Coltrane, Karyo, MI6 crew Skyfall: Craig, Marlohe, Bardem, Harris, Fiennes, McCrory, Finney, MI6 crew
Of course there are others, but you have to ignore maybe one cast member who isn't quite up to scratch (ie. TWINE - Denise Richards; OP - Vijay and Kristina Wayborn).
Thoughts? |

| From Russia With Love has the outstanding lineup though that's with the benefit of hindsight. Certainly the casting director did a fine job on that one. Skyfall is the next best for me, though it fails on the Great British Knockers index; once tits are factored in - always a good idea - the 1970s films start to look much better. |

| THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS has got to be up there.
Dalton, Dabo, Krabbe, Baker, Malik, Rhys-Davies, though minus points for the bloke who dubbed Necros. |

| I thought TB could be possible, but the dubbing of Largo and Domino cheapens it a little. |

| Have you heard Adolfo Celi's real voice in the making of documentary? So much more menacing than Robert Rietty. |

| Nah but I should check it out…. The fact is that villainous Largo sounds like Bond's ally Tanaka… |

| I understand why they had to dub certain actors back then, but why were they so excessive about it? Wasn't Jane Seymour dubbed as well?
As far as ensembles go, FRWL is definitely my favorite. Kerim Bay is a friend everyone should have on their side. |

| Goldfinger: Gert Frobe - so what if he was dubbed; Honor Blackman; Harold Sakata, for whom the term iconic was coined...even minor characters like Kisch, Solo and Col. Ling were so well-defined.
OHMSS: Personally, I like George Lazenby, even if he was an amateur, but look who was supporting him: Diana Rigg, Telly Savalas, Ilse Steppatt, Gabrielle Ferzetti, George Baker, Bernard Horsfall...
LALD: along with David Hedison and the ingenue Jane Seymour there was the glorious Gloria Hendry, Yaphet Kotto and his whole cadre of hipster goons - wow!
Like Sean Connery, Christopher Lee has often been the best thing in a bad movie. The core cast of TMWTGG makes it worth watching - Maud Adams, Marne Maitland, Richard Loo, Soon Teck-Oh, even Britt Eckland (don't listen to her - just watch her), and Herve was one creepy little dude.
TSWLM: No Oscar winners, but you could tell these people enjoyed working together. Stromberg's role was terribly underwritten, so they relied on Curt Jergens to ooze villainy, which he did. Barbara Bach was fine, but there wasn't enough of Caroline Munro.
OP: Welcome back Maud! Of Louis Jourdan and Steven Berkoff I can only say what one critic said of William Shatner and Christopher Plummer in Star Trek VI: "two old hamasauruses chewing up the scenery."
'nuff for now. |

| LALD is another contender absolutely. Like I said with OP, Vijay, Magda and Gobinda lessen the effect of an otherwise very solid cast.
I might be the only one here who thinks so, but TND having Pryce, Yeoh, Don Baker, Palmer and Hatcher is pretty impressive also.
DN, though Honey's dubbing kinda lessens it. Would really like to here her voice circa the 60s. But Wiseman, Lord, Gayson, Dawson - pretty fkn cool! |
