Admit it, you were expecting Dwayne Johnson, weren't you. After all, didn't he once express a desire to be in a Bond movie. And wasn't it his uncle that fought Bond at Osato Chemicals? But no, this is about the movie. I did a search, but didn't find any thread on this.
I found this recent video discussing an (apparently) popular fan theory that Sean Connery's character in The Rock is actually James Bond. This guy's case seems tight, and it's really cool to consider it in this way. The only issue that I have is if Bond escaped Alcatraz in 1963 and went back to being 007 until he was caught again in 1972, how can we account for his working with the Americans several times during that period? Wouldn't it have been a huge risk to reveal himself like that? Wouldn't he be very well known amongst the law enforcement community as one of the only people to ever escape from Alcatraz? And he wasn't a normal prisoner, he was considered a terrorist. All it would take is one agent familiar with the case to see Bond and think "that guy is a dead ringer for John Mason, heavy Scottish brogue and all. I've got to check this out".
Anyway, it's a lot of fun:
