Reading Moonraker--perhaps Fleming's greatest--last night, and struck upon a brief moment that was used in SF. Specifically, Bond, after giving Drax a right pranging in bridge at Blades the night before, and feeling like the dog's dinner the next day in his office at MI6, chews up a couple of Phensic tablets rather than have his secretary bring him a glass of water.
Something similar occurs in SF. To wit, Bond, after a night of scorpion-baiting and Latina-shagging, chomps down on a white pill or two the next morning and glares into the mirror.
Can't be coincidental. People simply do not chew up medicine rather than wash it down unless they're a bit soft in the head or unless they're James Bond.
