There were reports today (Jan. 21) that Craig is in Manilla to visit his wife, not in Shanghai. Meanwhile, the Swiss James Bond fan club has evidently published pictures of what may be a second-unit crew filming

(SPOILER SPACE)

A car chase there. Not much of a spoiler, but some people really, really don't want even a hint of a spoiler.

I think if this holds up to be true, and we don't get the first unit doing any on-location work in China or Turkey, then it's going to *feel* like an insulated, less-expansive, cheaper film. What's more, we'll get a lot of DAD thrown in, with a lot of stage work, special f/x fakery (like Bond going to "Hong Kong" by having him show up in front of a green screen) or we'll get action sequences filmed that have no connection to the actors because they were never physically on location (like the glacier car chase in DAD), or we'll get a continuation of squandered, missed location opportunities like we had throughout Brosnan's entire run.

The massive secrecy surrounding this film is the only thing right now really keeping me interested. They're going to have to put together one hell of a great teaser trailer this May for me to start getting excited about SKYFALL.

I would think the first unit will film in Turkey. MGW and BB were photographed signing papers with Turkish officials. I can't imagine they'd that (be photographed, that is) just for an agreement to have a second unit come in. But that's a guess on my part. We'll see.

Supposedly many of the Shanghai scenes have been doubled in the UK, but no doubt certain cover and establishing shots will need to be done in Shanghai. Maybe Craig is over there for a few days to do these scenes, who knows.
And how is that any different to what was done in QUANTUM OF SOLACE, with the Siena safehouse and art gallery sequences being shot at Pinewood? The tabloids like to make out that this is a recent phonemena, with most stuff being filmed on location, which we know to be untrue.

India has been scrapped, dropped, whatever. I don't see what your point is. This is confirming that India has been dropped as a location, regardless of whether it was back in September or not.
The articles published by The Mirror and picked up by everyone else imply that India being dropped was only a recent decision.

I doubt Bognor Regis or EON will want everyone knowing a Bond shoot will be taking place on their beaches if it has to be a private location scene, so I would take whatever the local government says with a pinch of salt.
There is no evidence that they even intend to film in Bognor Regis at all.

Almost all of which can be traced directly back to The Mirror. It's like that story about the Serbian cellist who claimed she would be scoring SKYFALL (which she called CARTE BLANCHE) and writing the title theme. Blic - a Serbian tabloid - published it, and websites like Den Of Geek, Cinema Blend and Ain't It Cool News ran with it. But jsut becuse they posted it based on what Blic had published, that didn't make it true.

Fair enough, although you'll find many of the newspapers leading with this story are major global news organisations, and not a tabloid in Serbia, or a few movie blog websites....

Nevertheless, they are taking the word of a tabloid - The Mirror. All they had to do is quote an anonymous source, and that would probably be enough for most entertainment writers. The Mirror dislikes Bond in general and Craig in particular, and they have a history of publishing stories that make the films look back. When QUANTUM OF SOLACE was filming in Panama, I think it was The Mirror that made a union strike on the other side of the city look like the revivial of an inner-city gang war, one that production was not only caught up in, but had started with their ignorance (it started as a story that some sound equipment had been stolen, then it became the producers paying some local youths to guard their equipment, then those local youths were apparently members of a gang, and then they were members of a gang on another gang's territory, and then it was an all-out war between those gangs with Daniel Craig trying to use a prop gun to scare some of them off).

SKYFALL may still film in Bognor Regis. Production appears to be looking at doing some scenes in or near Elstead, and there was talk of some filming on Ilkley Moor, so they obviously want some stuff done in the British Isles. But the whole story read like it is intended to be inflammatory - massive budget cuts, with exotic locations like Bali and China scrapped in favour of a dreary Sussex town. It was intended to turn people against Bond, to make them think "Oh, well, maybe it won't be so good after all".

I think the story was more in jest, poking a bit of fun. Tabloids are all about selling newspapers, and negative news and gossip is what seems to sell in the UK.

Well, I suppose it really depends on where you stand. I tend to see tabloids as inherently - if not openly - malicious, exploiting people to pad out their bottom line and to say that they have the most readers. Consequently, I tend to view anyone who works for a tabloid with utter disdain as they profit off misery and hedonism and rumour-mongering. The Mirror knew perfectly well that what they print is bullshit, but they print it anyway.

Not just The Mirror though...they all do it. The term `Gutter Press' wasn't given the label to them lightly....... ;)

I'm just using The Mirror in this case because they printed the Bognor Regis stuff. I know all tabloids do it. But the damn thing is tht people know perfectly well that all they do is spew crap, but they swallow it like it's prime rib.

Sometimes the stories can be genuine. Not everything the gutter press print is false. Ocassionally they do get it right, so it's probably a little difficult to dismiss all their stories, especially when they are referring to high level sources.

That's good news. Very scenic locations. Hopefully SF will get more use out of Istanbul than TWINE did.

You've been there, Gravy? Sadly the closest I've got is Google Images.

If by "you've been there" you mean using Google Images, then yes, I've "been there"!

I was just remarking that, based upon what Google Images pulled up, the locations looked great. We may get some actual on-location footage of Bond this time in Istanbul. I think only second-unit went to Turkey back in '99; a lot of action sequences set in Istanbul for TWINE got dumped, so it'll be worth noting whether any of that makes its way back into Skyfall.

Some scenes of 007 James Bond's latest movie Skyfall is being shot in Adana and Istanbul in Turkey. Shootings in Adana province have been completed and now it's time for Istanbul. Between April 16th - May 6th a movie platform will be settled in front of the Spice market in Eminonu neighbourhood and artists and stunts will be there.

Just a reminder for those who will be visiting Istanbul during this period: all Eminonu area where the Spice Market and Yeni mosque are, will be close to vehicle and pedestrian traffic for about 3 weeks therefore be prepared for lots of traffic and most probabily for not being able to visit the Spice Market area.

https://www.facebook.com/allaboutturkey1/posts/10150932703987977

Alleged shooting schedule:

Quote :
Istanbul

- Set preparation start : Monday, April 9
- Shooting period: April 16 to May 6
- Filming start : Monday, April 16. They are filming action scenes involving blowing up of vehicles and motorcycle chases which don't require the main actors to be on set. It's 2nd unit work.
- Arrival of the main cast: Monday, April 30. This is in partial disagreement with Tonia Sotiropoulou's previous statement, alleging that her scenes are planned to be filmed throughout five days starting from April 22, considering that her scenes are likely to be with Daniel Craig. It's 1st unit work.

Adana

May 5 to 6: Closure to traffic of the Kasim Gulek bridge, to shoot close-ups of Daniel Craig in the sequence of him jumping off the bridge, I presume. Please, note that in the meantime this date may have been changed.

Fethiye

May 21 to 22.

Thanks for those posts. If it weren't for you I wouldn't know half of what I do know about Skyfall (because I'm too lazy to go look for it).

I hope some of the unused material from TWINE gets put into the Turkey shoot. It had a good chase scene starting on foot through the spice bazaars, through Turkish spas and steam rooms, then went onto the tops of a tram/trolley car, and somehow a moving crane also got mixed in. Haven't read the first and second drafts of TWINE in a long time, so I'm going by memory.

From what I've gathered over at Cb.n,, it appears that they're using rejected ideas from the GOLDENEYE and BOND 17 screenplays. For example, the SKYFALL train setpiece is what was originally intended to happen to Trevelyan's missile train, I believe in the Jeffrey Caine script.

Interesting about the TWINE foot chase. And funny how many seem to think Bond has copied Bourne, when foot/rooftop chases go all the way back to YOLT's rooftop chase, or later, TLD's Tangiers chase.

That's because most modern audiences can only remember the last three years of cinema - and even then, that's only when they try to remember. At the risk of having someone post that bloody picture of teens with a poorly-spelt caption, I've seriously had English classes where my students hold up the likes of PROJECT X and AMERICAN REUNION as shining examples of film. Okay, I admit that they have a certain appeal (although if, in the case of PROJECT X, your film mostly consists of people telling each other how awesome their party is, it's generally not that awesome; also, watching other people have fun for two hours is not very entertaining entertainment) ... but what about the likes of THE CONVERSATION or THE THIRD MAN? Have they never seen these films? And if not ... why not!?

Calis Beach, Fethiye reportedly closed.

Out for a walk with the dogs this morning we came across some 'building' work down by the Surf Cafe on the large area which was cleared & walled last year.
I guessed what it might be for, but just to check, we spoke to one of the workmen & yes-it is the location headquarters for the crew of the new James Bond film!!
There are a couple of huts & a large frame which was being covered with a canvas-like roof & there are boards going down for the floor, table & chairs etc.
There was even a security guard already on site.
The workmen said that he thought some crew would be here around the middle of the month.
Typical that I didn't have my camera with me, but I am sure we will be nippping down there again soon to see what else is happening!

James Bond film crew to close part of Istanbul

Scenes for the latest installment of the 007 James Bond series, “Skyfall,” will be filmed in one of Istanbul’s busiest and most crowded neighborhoods, Eminönü, following filming in the southern province of Adana.

Starting April 16, an Eminönü street will be closed to traffic and pedestrians for three weeks. The production company will pay the owners of shops on the street 750 Turkish Liras a day to cover their three-week loss. The owners will open their shops but will not be able to make sales.

Permission for the shooting has been obtained from the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, Culture and Tourism Ministry, Istanbul Governor’s Office and Fatih Municipality. The film team is expected to arrive in the city on April 30. The shooting will continue until May 6.

For the film, the Mısır Çarşısı (Egyptian Bazaar), Yeni Camii (New Mosque), Old Post Office, Bankacılar Avenue, Sultanhamam, Balat Kiremit Avenue and the Grand Bazaar will be turned into a natural film platform.

The production company has already begun preparations in coordination with the Transportation and Coordination Center (UKOME).
