There's news that COMMUNITY, 30 ROCK, and PARKS AND RECREATION will all be getting fourth seasons next year. But they're short seasons, meant to allow these shows a proper finale (it's surprising that NBC would be so kind).

I have to say that COMMUNITY's third season is starting to wear on me, though. This season's focus on Abed is rubbing me the wrong way.

Community has been moved to the Friday night death slot. Guess that's NBC's way of saying you get one final season and we don't care about ratings, but you can basically do whatever you want creatively.

Dan Harmon, the creator of COMMUNITY, has been booted as showrunner.

Given the slow exodus of writers from the original season--the last one, Chris McKenna, walked in response to this news--I think we can safely proclaim the show dead. Which is fine, really, since the season 3 finale seemed designed as a series finale.

My wife said she had heard Chevy Chase was responsible for the showrunner's ouster. Is that true? Does Chase actually have clout again, and if so, WHY? (have only seen 10min of the series, and while funny, it didn't compel me to tune in again. By way of comparison, I caught my first BIG BANG two weeks ago and have seen a dozen since.)

From what I gather, the studios are trying to give the show broader appeal. Baffling decision, IMO, considering it's already a cult show and that's not going to change with a 13-episode final season.

No, not that we can tell. Dan Harmon and Chevy Chase had a feud, but that was resolved a little while ago.

From what I understand, Sony & NBC have numerous other reasons to get rid of Harmon beyond Chevy Chase not liking him. Apparently he's "difficult" to work with. The 12 episode fourth season has been described as a cynical ploy to get enough episodes to qualify for syndication, making Harmon's presence irrelevant. In short, it doesn't matter if they are Community only in name.
