I don't think a fan of the film can fully appreciate the overhead shot at the end (or the whole entire film, in general, which is always going to be the case) without seeing it on the big screen. I\m looking forward to seeing it. Anyone know when it's coming to the UK? |

http://www.imdb.com/calendar/?region=gb Cheers. Though does anyone know a site that lists when and where showings of classic film will be shown in the UK?

| Where's The Money, Ronnie? (1996) Dir. Shane MeadowsAn amusing short from Shane Meadows. Four men give their views on their particpation in a robbery invlolving £800, a cricket bat, a starting pistol, Italian mobster brothers and a man called Ronnie, played by Meadows himself. Intersting to view as it was the first fillm of Meadows' career. Jimmy Hynd as "Jock of the Spoono" is the highlight. 4/5 Meadows : 1. This Is England (2006) 2. Dead Man's Shoes (2004) 3. Where's The Money, Ronnie? (1996) 4. A Room For Romeo Brass (2001) 5. The Stairwell (2004) |

I don't see anything, but then I don't know where to look :) The BFI have some re-releases going on though it's not a broad range I guess. I see The Way to the Stars, Seperate Tables, Sound Barrier and original Brighton Rock amongst the films on in the next month and personally I'm quite looking forward to seeing at least two of them. --- true to form, nothing to do today so managed to get in the remainder of Call Northside 777 with Jimmy Stewart. Then swiftly onto 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea which was somewhat passable. I hate to say that as I used to like it as a kid, it looks good, James Mason is superb but it feels to drag in places. Finally The Aviator which I found an admirable effort, actually liked DiCaprio, Blanchett was good, the film looked good in places and as Roger Ebert commented the near three hours breezes past. I fear next to The Departed it's the only Scorsese film I've seen. |

The Enforcer
Why are third sequels almost always crap? The only defining part of The Enforcer is the Kate Moore character. Even then, she runs around the film wearing, for lack of a better word, a business skirt. Even if just being promoted from a desk job, surely it must have crossed her mind that that wouldn't be the best attire to wear when she might be chasing after crooks. That and her constant purse fidgeting causes my suspension of disbelief to tank. Did it feel like there was a lot cut from the film? I've only seen it once, and it felt like stuff was cut out. The lack of Lalo Schifrin didn't help matters. It was Jerry Fielding who did the score, I think. He's no Schifrin.
Less that there was stuff cut out, more that the writers didn't do a good job. The script was essentially a spec script from San Fran film students and it sure looks and sounds like it. Sudden ImpactThis is better. It's still Dirty Harry, but it goes in a unique direction as compared to the other 3. I like it. Not as good as Dirty Harry or Magnum Force, but still good. Also, you know Harry is pissed when he chooses the AutoMag over his usual revolver. I don't own The Dead Pool and probably won't watch it for a bit. I haven't heard good things about it.

| Yeah - but - Sondra Locke? Surefire way to ruin an otherwise good film, she is. :x |

might've been Clint's doing, weren't he and her knocking boots at the time? Don't quote me, must be an useless fact gleaned off wikipedia. As for his automag, he did loose the regular Magnum in the bar but the Automag is one mean thing and accompanies that fine moment when Eastwood emerges from the shadows at the fairground towards the end. Helps he's accompanied by a Schifrin tune. |

| I liked Sondra in Sudden Impact. Haven't really seen her in anything else, though. Those wide eyes and pale skin fit the kind of character she was playing.
She was in The Gauntlet, wasn't she. I vaguely remember seeing that on cable somewhere. |

They were indeed. And she ruined Any Which Way You Can, Every Which Way But Loose, The Gauntlet and The Outlaw Josey Wales. She must have been great in the sack, because she was bloody awful on screen. - Quote :

| DEAD POOL does have an inspired car chase. And you get to see Jim Carrey die. Add to that the fortune cookie scene.
I think it was directed by a stunt coordinator and it really feels more like a TV movie. |

Watching him mime to Guns 'n' Roses is pretty amusing as well. |

| I've seen some of THE GAUNTLET. I turned it off, I think, because Locke was so awful. She was crap in SUDDEN IMPACT too. I think it ruined the movie. |

| Watched two flicks of Paul Verhoeven's: Starship Troopers and Showgirls.
Space Nazis and tits. Sci-Fi flicks can sometimes depict the future as dark and depressing while a movie like Starship Troopers plays that on a gung ho vibe that's so bizzaire and perhaps unsettling, it works well. I swear Verhoeven must have been having the last laugh with Showgirls because something about the whole thing feels more than intentional, like he wanted to make this soap opera but on an exaggerated level, kind of like those late night programs HBO/Showtime played. It's amusing to say the least. |

| i like the vibe of SUDDEN IMPACT, once he gets to the seaside town - its an almost Hitchcockian take on the cop movie. But yeah, Locke was one awful actress. Even worse than Jill Ireland in all those Bronson films. - Quote :

| Finally saw QT's BASTERDS tonight. Boy, that was a lot of fun!
My wife thought it was kind of sad that I could recognize a music cue from KELLY'S HEROES, though. I was amazed, considering I never made it through that movie.
Does anybody know the british guy who got briefed by Mike Meyers? I had a bit of the early promise-unfulfilled Cary Elwes vibe about him.
Also rewatched GLADIATOR for the first time in a decade, and in spite of all the thinks I always find irksome about it, had to admit it went by fast and was very engaging. Still think the film is seriously overcut in action and the reliance on doubleprinting suggests Scott couldn't achieve his effects pictorially so he had to get them in a less interesting way. |

| MASH (1970; dir. Robert Altman)I'd seen bits of this about 15 years ago, but never the whole thing. I really enjoyed it. I did lose interest during the football game, but I almost NEVER like watching sports in a film. I hate sports movies. Except THE HUSTLER and SLAP SHOT. Anyway, you've got two of my favorite peeps in Sutherland and Gould. And Kellerman. She was fucking hot back in the day. I loved all the stuff with her and Duvall. I love the whole cast, loved seeing Radar. Yeah, it's a pretty good movie, but not perfect. I liked the people more than I thought it was funny. But I liked some parts a lot. And that song. I love that song. I've got MCCABE AND MRS. MILLER and IMAGES next up in my queue. I hear THE PLAYER is good, too. Shame they don't have CALIFORNIA SPLIT on Instant anymore. |

| The TV show spoiled it for me.
Nobody could be as awesome as Alan Alda, McLean Stevenson and Larry Linville. Nobody.
So it was decently funny, but not great.
BTW, love the avatar - was going to use it for fan art once but couldnt find a big enough copy.... and I hope it mean you're watching DAYS OF WINE AND ROSES soonish. :)

It seems to me that filmic violence is fine for comic effect or to advance a storyline, but when it serves neither purpose it's just sadistic. For me, Basterds fell into the latter category and, as such, I despise it. |
