| Happily, a number of films that I've wanted to see Criterion tackle have already been done. THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER, PATHS OF GLORY, THE LAST PICTURE SHOW (sadly not available seperately), and now KISS ME DEADLY and CUL-DE-SAC are on the way. To name a few.
I'd like to see MATEWAN get a proper a DVD release. |

| Funny, I was thinking of starting a thread on what titles you own on Criterion. I bought PATHS OF GLORY on blu-ray via pre-order, despite never having seen it. So it's pretty rewarding when you watch it and see how good it really is. After seeing it I called it my favorite Kubrick flick on the spot. I do want to see KISS ME DEADLY and THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER the most, but I'll likely just rent them first instead. |

I don't how much noir you've seen, as KISS ME DEADLY is in that category. It also gives a nice glimpse of 50's LA, including Bunker Hill before it got ripped it up for skyscrapers. THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER defies any one classification. It's like.... Tim Burton meets Kubrick. I guess. That's what my brain came up with at 4:30 AM. You ever see a movie with Robert Mitchum in it? He needs more fans. |

Damn straight. With better artwork than the current release, and including both the Polanski cut and the studio cut, as well as the Sharon Tate stuff which has been screened on TCM, a commentary by SOMEBODY (is Kermode a fan? That would be nice, shame that this is the last film Polanski would be up to recording a commentary for), plus SOMEBODY has to stick the 2000 BBC Scene By Scene Polanski show on to a DVD; The Exorcist used a BBC documentary, so rights can't be that big an issue. And I obviously wouldn't be against them producing a brand new and much-deserved feature-length documentary titled "THE FEARLESS VAMPIRE KILLERS: Or, PARDON ME, BUT THIS IS ACTUALLY THE MOST CRIMINALLY UNDERACKNOWLEDGED CLASSIC MOTION PICTURE OF ALL-TIME" to stick on there too. I'll host it. 8) The Tenant would obviously be welcome as well, preferably with better dubbing alignment than the current version, as I still prefer my ancient VHS of that over the DVD version. And Frantic, this time with some bloody extras, FFS. |

What did you make of that, Dr? I much preferred Croupier. "Croupier" is definitely superior. I thought "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead" was dry in some areas, but worked well overall. I especially enjoyed the ending. It was a good tale of revenge without getting to the point of senselessly and savagely killing a ton of people like it's going out of style, like so many films of the 2000s. And speaking of "Croupier", I'd say it deserves the Criterion treatment, as well. |

| I don't think they use anything from the posters unfortunately but that would be pretty cool use of it. It's simple yet effective. |

Eugh, absolutely hate Mark Kermode. A smug, try-hard t*** who finds himself far too funny and knows next to nothing about film criticism. I'd love to see Sternberg's The Devil is a Woman get the Masters of Cinema treatment. The current release by Universal actually has quite nice picture quality, but seeing it in high-definition would be incredible. Frank Tashlin's The Girl Can't Help It too - MoC's Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter? disc is perfect, and I can't even watch Second Sight's The Girl Can't Help It disc on my new television. |

| What films would you like to see come out on Criterion DVD and BD?
#1 for me, at this point, is Klimov's COME AND SEE. The Kino DVD is tolerable, but to see this in high definition, with remastered audio, would be mind-blowing.
THE BRIDE WORE BLACK, THE SOFT SKIN, and THE GREEN ROOM, as well. |

| They've already released the three that I really wanted: KISS ME DEADLY, THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER, and THE LAST PICTURE SHOW.
I'd love to see a noir collection with films like DETOUR, DOA, and THE BIG COMBO. Four or five choice noirs that are in the public domain and hard to come by in quality presentations.
And of course, a Welles boxset of at least...
-THE MAGNIFICENT AMBERSONS -MACBETH -OTHELLO -THE TRIAL -CHIMES AT MIDNIGHT -THE IMMORTAL STORY
And THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WIND. |

| Judging by that recent KANE BD/AMBERSONS DVD combo, it seems like Warner may have taken an interest in AMBERSONS. Perhaps they'll be releasing it on Blu-Ray soon.
Some other suggestions:
BREAKING THE WAVES (Von Trier) BADLANDS (Malick) BITTER MOON (Polanski) THIS MAN MUST DIE (Chabrol) A SHORT FILM ABOUT LOVE (Kieslowski) POINT BLANK (Boorman) SECONDS (Frankenheimer) PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE (De Palma) |

| BADLANDS, POINT BLANK, and SECONDS, yes.
Though POINT BLANK already has a good commentary by Boorman and Steven Sodajerk. |

| Curiously, Criterion has put Welles THE IMMORTAL STORY up on Hulu+. The quality is pretty decent. |

I'd say it's a better bet that Masters of Cinema release it as part of their deal with Universal, assuming Universal has a clean HD master of it. Of course, the release would be B locked like their upcoming Touch of Evil. Warner don't seem interested in The Magnificent Ambersons; they're just throwing it out there tied to Citizen Kane, indicating they don't have much confidence in the title being a moneymaker by itself. |

Wow, that's good to know. I've read about that for half my life, never seen it. I guess except for those couple of minutes of THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WIND that turn up on the AFI tribute to Welles, this'll be the first in-color stuff I've ever seen from him. |
