| Lot of fanboys over there in denial.
TBH, it sounds like an amalgam of PLANET OF THE APES, FANTASTIC VOYAGE, THE THING, THE INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHER and THE FLY. |

With an H.R. Giger coat of paint. Right, exactly. I'm trying to be optimistic here, but I was hoping for something more ambitious. More out there, like the fake plot synopsis a while back. This seems like fairly generic sci-fi. |

| It's a bit much to hope for anything resembling ambitious in a big-budget production. The last guy who managed it was Nolan with Inception and he only was allowed carte blanche because he made WB a fortune with his Batman movies. |

Compared to projects with similar budgets? Name me something that came close that was made in the last decade. |

| I can't think of any truly ambitious big budget movies in the last decade.
I'm sorry, Miss. Spank me. |

I can't do that without charging you first, Ambler's orders. |

WATCHMEN was quite ambitious. Didn't live up to those ambitions, but still, it had 'em. |

WATCHMEN was quite ambitious. Didn't live up to those ambitions, but still, it had 'em. WATCHMEN had an estimated budget of $100 mil, which isn't anywhere near the league of INCEPTION, AVATAR, KING KING etc. |

I understand the budget was more $130-150, which would put it about on par with INCEPTION. |

WATCHMEN had an estimated budget of $100 mil, which isn't anywhere near the league of INCEPTION, AVATAR, KING KING etc. Watchmen was a film which was infinitely inferior to Inception. The opening credits is the only worthwhile part of that movie, likely because it was the only segment in which Snyder genuinely tried to interpret and adapt the material to his medium instead of slavishly following the comics as story-boards. Which was only because most of that material was inspired by the plain-text addendums instead of actual comic panels. |

| I think he deviated way too far from the comic's panels. Look at the catching-the-bullet reveal in the book ... it is exactly how the scene should have been shot (I even remember a college film instructor using that page as the ideal in terms of storyboarding for film, way back when.)
I'm one of those rarities who loved the graphic novel and really really liked the film as well (though I agree with you that the credits are perhaps the best part). I think the adaptation was actually rather skillful, and skirted an act 3 that could have been calamitous if it had stayed faithful to the book. I don't approve of some casting, but it was a really good try.
If WATCHMEN came in under 125 mil, I'd say it was a bargain given what they had to put across. |

Nah. They're both deeply flawed. And yeah, Trevanian, I think Snyder would have done a bit better to stick closer to the panels in some sequences. The WATCHMEN MOTION COMIC suggests just how effective an extremely strict book-to-screen translation could have been. |

| WATCHMEN is a vastly superior film to INCEPTION, which is a dull, confusing and tedious affair. |

Christ no. Watchmen is unwatchable a second time. The thing just doesn't work. At all. |

Nah. They're both deeply flawed. Amen. Don't think I could sit through WATCHMEN again. I might give INCEPTION another chance, though... maybe. |

| I wrote a paper on Watchmen recently (never had assignments that fun in high school!), and after rewatching parts of the movie just for fun, all I can say is: boy does it miss the mark. I especially don't care for Snyder's gratuitous violence. |

| I agree there. A lot of violence that works in a comic book panel, just feels like plain old sadism when adapted to film. |
