The first poster's out:

On the downside, Scott's regular collaborator Marc Streitenfail has been hired as the composer. PROMETHEUS has just dug its own grave (or should I say burial?).

I wouldn't say PROMETHEUS has dug its own grave, per se, but it is a disappointing choice.
The poster feels like something from the 90s.

Yeah, I'm getting a DARK CITY vibe here.

This Thursday will be the release of the first teaser of Prometheus the ONE movie I would see in 2012 if I were allowed to see only one movie next year. (The Hobbit part 1 would be my second choice)

I saw a "teaser of the teaser" and they (whoever put the teaser together) used the same music/sound effect from the ALIEN trailer...the film looks like ALIEN...and it has a very, very quick, split-second shot of what appears to be an astronaut with some sort of creature filling the inside of his helmet.
I'm going out on a limb here and suggesting that this film will be a direct prequel to ALIEN, and that for marketing purposes only the studio has chosen to avoid using the ALIEN tag/label, possibly because of perceived damage done to the series with the Alien Vs Predator movies. If this isn't a prequel or set-up for ALIEN then I don't know what it is.
EDIT: Deadline Hollywood has the promo for the teaser (put together by 20th Century Fox).
So if 20th Century Fox put it together, and they're using the sound effect from the ALIEN trailer, then it would seem official that this movie is a direct prequel to ALIEN, or else there will be hell to pay from the fans for misleading us.

The trailer has the sound effect from the Alien trailer, not just the promo.
And the title appears Saul Bass-style.
So yeah, it's pretty much an Alien film.

this movie is going to so freaking amazing!!
1000% better than the already over-rated, over-hyped Dark Knight Rises (which by the way sounds like the title to a Inter-Racial Gay Porno movie)!!

That trailer preview also features the second half of a track from Jerry Goldsmith's original score called "The Skeleton." A tone cluster with quartertone (and tiny interval smaller than a semitone/half-step) vibrato in the strings, with the missing intervals punctuated by flutes and xylophone, along with tritone (C-Gb - the Devil's Interval - the diabolus in music) col legno (tapping the strings with the wood of the bow) hits by the cellos and basses processed through an MXR echoplex pedal (an early analogue delay pedal common in prog rock). Heard when the camera (crane or dolly?) slowly tracks into the Space Jockey's eye.

So ... is PROMETHUS and ALIEN prequel/sequel/sidequel/whateverquel as originally reported, or not?

I'm not sure I like the cinematography. Looks too clean and digital.

A lot of it looks too clean. Like it's about a quarter of the way from ALIEN (where you basically see the frays in their clothes) to STARSHIP TROOPERS (Ken and Barbie in Space!).

This is like complaining about someone using a zoom lens in 1969.

I know. I expect the impossible. It's just Harms goes on about digital being able to replicate the textured quality of film, or at least getting there. Still a long way to go.
Wait a sec... is this shot on film or just digitally raped graded?

Digital, I think. Wasn't it shot in 3D?

the movie is not complete; I am sure they haven't done all the special effects grading.
it's like complaining about the surf sequence at the beginning of DAD and saying that it's too bright (that sequence was filmed in daylight) before the digital special effects grading was added

Huh. I saw j7's name as the most-recent poster and came in here expecting to see a whole host of shots of the xenomorph in a bikini ...
