| I guess I just expect it. I grew up with bad rear projection, so in a way seeing some here & there is kind of... nostalgic. We'll never see it again. *snif* |

Never say never chrisisall, the movie I'm currently writing will have some rear projection. ;) It's a porno? *Laughs hysterically* No. It's a throwback to classic action drama's of the 80's but with cyberpunk elements. :) Seattle 2023 - Crime is at an all time high. The economy has collapsed due to corruption and there was a large rebel outcry that lead to a short war. Bruce Murdock our hero..well anti-hero is a vigilante. His father was murdered by gangster Nathan Greene in 2010. Bruce has sworn vengeance and vows to kill Greene and destroy his organization. However the mysterious organization Illusion Industries sees Bruce as a potential tool to wipe out there competition and lower the crime rates considerably. So Bruce finally has a chance to get his revenge, but he's not alone. He'll have the help of hacker Rylus Carlyle who is being blackmailed by Greene to do his cyber crimes. Sasha Hamilton, an undercover police officer who's on Bruce's trail but waiting to strike and Earl Jonas, an ex gangster who worked for Greene but snitched on a few details so Greene wants him dead. Illusion decides to form a team of with Bruce, Rylus, Sasha and Earl and they become...The Agents of Illusion! |

| Projection or blue screen, I always prefer the more authentic shooting on location. Projection is fine if you intentionally want to make your film look like something from the past. Like trying to revive optical printing for composite shots. |

| I'll be using Green/Blue screens and a mixture of real stuff. My movie doesn't have much driving scenes anyway. |

| I always loved the above-windshield shot in TOUCH OF EVIL with Chuck Heston and Joe Cotton. Years ahead of its time. |

There's actually a re-edited Touch Of Evil out there with deleted scenes and other scenes in the proper sequence according to how Welles wanted it. Alas, the studio decided to fuck up his cut to make audiences 'happier' and warp his vision. I have not seen the cut myself, but reviews say it's more HIS movie now, and since I liked it already, I'm totally intrigued. When I get a few extra $ I plan to get it. |

Fincher was using rear projection for all the driving stuff in FIGHT CLUB, and that was less than 15 years back. I think there's still some use, but now with new tech RP is done with an electronic screen. on SLEEPY HOLLOW they've got this billboard behind the car for RP, and in front they project an image on the foreground car as a reflection element too. |

No way LTK's was worse than DN's. And anyway, isn't it front-projection by then? It was front projection in Superman II (1981). I don't think many driving scenes have been done with FP because it isn't necessary, and is a hassle to set up. Occasionally flying scenes (FLIGHT OF THE INTRUDER has some FP cockpit stuff), but mainly for special purpose stuff, or to do trick work like the Introvision FP stuff in OUTLAND and THE FUGITIVE and STAND BY ME. I think the SUPES FP stuff was mainly for the Zoptic flying shots, the ones where Reeve stays fixed, but the camera zooms in synch with the projector to give the illusion that Reeve is moving. Zoran Perisic is still messing with that & other stuff, for 3D now, though I can't find his website readily. |
