The editor in me says you can't have 'On the other hand' without ' On the one hand', but that's by the by... Perhaps Ms. Clarkson just has a busy publicist; IMDB has her attached to Star Trek 123456789.

Blame it on the fact that I never studied English beyond the secondary school level and even that is nearly twenty years ago. smile

That was my first thought, too. All the best film directors are busy so only a television director might be available for a shoot intended to begin in December.

It's timely that Cavill has exited the Superman role, and Craig is in Knives Out (fitting for someone willing to slash their wrists over their one lucrative role)...

It wasn't meant as a criticism - your English is most impressive and better than many native speakers. Rather I was making an observation that contemporary society's liking for simplicity sometimes renders old phrases meaningless.

As for SJ Clarkson, IMDB really does have her listed as directing the new Star Trek movie. However, that particular starship may have returned to its dock in development hell. Or perhaps that’s just wishful thinking on my part.

I didn't take it as one, just giving some perspective.

I think Cavill is now occupied until May next year shooting the first season of "The Witcher", which starts shooting in Budapest in October.
That shooting schedule has not been confirmed but is based on leaked information. But he definitely signed on to the Netflix show and such a shooting schedule would fit in with the intended release date of the show (which is supposedly late 2019 or early 2020).

Tarantino has supposedly submitted a treatment for the next Trek flick and JJ Abrams apparently likes it.

I can see it now ... 165 minutes, almost all of which unfold turgidly on the Enterprise's bridge. Being hit by a phaser shot will cause the recipient's head to explode. Alien races will be referred to as 'green-skinned motherfuckers'.

Great. sarcasm

Tarantino/Abrams--I cannot imagine a worse pairing unless it would be Weinstein/Boyle.

probably mentioned elsewhere but the Beeb had this article about Cavill quitting Superman and hinting at Bond. Struck by a quote that I'm sure will go down well here.

Anna Smith, film critic and president of the Critics' Circle, told the BBC that if the speculation about Cavill leaving the role is true, she'd "love to imagine it's because he is preparing take on the role of James Bond".
She added: "The DC movies have been squandering his gift for suave comedy, which we saw in The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and which would take Bond back to the old school (minus the sexism, I hope)."

If it is Cavill, they will definitively have to push back the movie until 2020 since the earliest he could possibly start shooting is May 2019.

It is impossible for them to start shooting in December. Baz just reported that Purvis and Wade have been rehired now to develop their treatment into a screenplay. Sounds as though they're on the first draft. A director will come in and would want to make changes. This will probably get delayed another year at the bare minimum.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-6166379/Spymaster-writing-duo-rescue-new-Bond-film-director-Danny-Boyle-walked-out.html

I'm less convinced Craig will return, especially with the discussions surrounding Cavill.

TV director Bart Layton is in talks with Eon for Bond 25.

When discussing Bond, he cites Moore as his favourite as he was the one he grew up with.

Bart wrote:
"Was it 'The Spy Who Loved Me' with the car that went underwater? For me, it didn't get better than that. But of course as you grow up, you realise maybe there were better ones."

Seems well read.

Please say that's a wind up. I guess at least he didn't say, like somebody at work, Craig's the best Bond because he's so good looking.

It kills me to hear that stuff. Why not find someone who knows the series and character back to front..and ACTUALLY LIKES IT? I'm dying to work on the series in any capacity as I know most fans would.

The fact that both Mendes and Craig claimed they loved LALD gutted me. I think they may be mistaken as they seemed to have never seen the film or understood it.

I'm always available. I don't have any directorial experience (let alone know how to even operate a camera) but I did love that Bond movie where Bond yelled like Tarzan and went bang bang causing a Russian to fall down. I think it was called Octoraker or something.

To be fair, I can see the parallels as both LALD and SP both have thinly developed storylines. tongue

Cary Fukunaga has been announced as the new director.
I kind of like this news?
His work on the first season of "True Detective" was very good and I like his "Jane Eyre" adaptation.
They certainly could have done a lot worse than him at this late hour.

To start filming in March, for release 14th February 2020.

Chasing the 'date movie' market this time instead of the summer/Christmas ones, it seems. Hmmm.

Wasn't big on his Jane Eyre, to be honest.

Not big on Craig's return.

I have 21 other Bond films I'd rather watch, already.

Fuckunaga (thanks Ambler, it was destined to catch on) is a writer, too. He wrote the 'It' remake.

I will hold out for "creative differences" when he wants to "polish" Purvis and Wade's script that they're currently on 1st draft on.
