The only vaguely accurate way of grounding this title would be to do a mirror universe story -- either that or have the whole crew experience the halving accident Kirk undergoes in THE ENEMY WITHIN.
Either that or engineering is going to start brewing DARK ales.
BTW ... just with recent political presidential stuff I've read, I flashed on Obama being a Trek fan. And it makes me think that he really needed to re-see THE ENEMY WITHIN before he took office. And then maybe once a week for the last 4 years. He needs to own his dark side, not suppress it (and himself) into immobility.

What we need is a TURNABOUT INTRUDER scenario. Or Voyager's episode "Tuvix". A transporter accident to merge Obama and his politics with some GOP guy like Christie's take-no-prisoners attitude, but not his weight.

I'm not saying that everyone who likes it is a moron, but the film itself is incredibly dumbed down. But I'm more annoyed by how badly written it is.

The only credit I can give to such an awful title is that at least Trek is calling a spade a spade, given that most blockbusters nowadays may as well just call themselves Into Darkness. The sooner everyone isn't into darkness, thus finally sparing us this stale, done-to-death approach, the better.
That said, Into Darkness would be an apt title for a box set of the last six Bond films.
Surely STAR TREK: 2 DRK, 2 SRS would have sat better with the modern cinemagoer?

Got an email from an old friend I haven't seen in 20+ years that seemed appropriate to reproduce here - I found myself hysterical after reading the first two sentences.
Kevin, had a dream last night that I was invited to the set of the next Star Trek, film, and YOU were the director. I asked you how you got the job, and you replied, "They needed somebody who understood Star Trek." Anyway, we left the studio at the end of the day to go out to eat something, and you wrecked the car and took off on foot with police chasing you. Then I woke up.
"They needed somebody who understood Star Trek." It's terrible that I turn up as so naive and idealistic in other people's dreams.

Abrams showed 3 frames from the movie on CONAN last night. Am too irate to even post a link.

Anyone betting a trailer will appear before Skyfall?
Of the whole nuTrek thing, I think my favorite experience was actually seeing the trailer play before Quantum of Solace. This is because I didn't know that it would be playing, heck I didn't even know it existed by that point, it totally came out of nowhere for me. So when the car is high speeding I assume it's some generic Michael Bay-esque flick, I'm watching it but I'm not paying much attention. Then the kid says his name, and I am utterly surprised not from what I've seen but what came at me with no warning.
To sum it up, I really liked being surprised by the trailer. It's a moment that never really happens in this internet age knowing what's going to happen when and where. It makes me want to unplug the internet just to get that experience again. But then when it's available I rush to see it anyway, because I have bad impulses. So for this flick I'll try not seeing it until it's on the big screen.

Yeah, I saw it was up and didn't even bother to me. I've looked. I suppose it's not enough to get upset about. Perhaps one of us can find a flaw in it.

I can say few good things about it: No lens flare! And Spock wears a suit next to lava, which I guess is an improvement over Chakotay's magical Indian powers letting him hop over lava like Super Mario Bros.

"they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization". "a one man weapon of mass destruction"
Yeah, that's Gary Mitchell. Just admit it Abrams.

Was just about post this.
I have a question.
Quote :
In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes Star Trek Into Darkness. When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.
With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.
What the fuck does that mean?
And why does this sound like it's going to be LASER MISSION in space?

This movie doesn't just blow up ships - it blows up what ships stand for!

Just saw the Gary Mitchell thing. That could be interesting at least. Though it'll be awkward if he's handled as the guy who has been Kirk's friend all along.
Still don't know who you detonate what a fleet stands for.

Sounds like something out of Captain Scarlet.

Well, we have plenty of evidence the screenwriters are inept. I'm guessing that now extends to the PR writers as well (unless they are one & the same.)
If you've got Pike (from the 1st pilot) in the first movie and Mitchell (from the 2nd pilot) in the second, who is going to be in the third, the Salt Vampire (1st aired episode) or Balok of the Fesarius (1st produced episode)
Imagine we'll see THE WRATH OF CHARLIE X with this Bieber kid sometime soon. The way his voice sounds, he could do MIRI'S REVENGE too.

Having a hero with his back to the camera seems to be something of a fad in poster design. See also INCEPTION and THE BOURNE ULTIMATIUM.

Is that the hero? I figured it was the villain. (Folks are now speculating that the baddie is actually Garth of Izar.)
