Rebecca on Blu-ray.
I got the DVD from Netflix, and I watched the first half hour. I was entranced. So I pause it and look up the price of the DVD. Then I see that it came out on Blu-ray yesterday! Along with NOTORIOUS, SPELLBOUND, and Wilder's THE APARTMENT. I only bought REBECCA.
THE APARTMENT is damn tempting, along with THE HUSTLER Blu-ray. I've wanted to do a double bill of them. I never planned to upgrade too many films to Blu, though. I dunno. I'll probably skip it. Must practice self-control. Besides, I'm looking at the BELLE DE JOUR Blu-ray anyway. When it dips below 30.

Glad to hear love for REBECCA, it became my favorite Hitchcock film the night I first watched it.

I'm not tradionally a fan of Selznick films. They're generally too stuffy for me.

Only other Selznick produced film I saw was SPELLBOUND, which I thought was on the okay side.

Now that's a film I certainly like a lot. Glad I got the Criterion reissue before that went out of print.

It went out of print? I have it thankfully, the two-disc.

Yeah it was one of the first batch of Criterion blu-rays which went out of print as soon as it was released ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mV1LzXf1TKQ ). Wish I got that instead, oh well.

Oh yeah, picked up a copy of ANATOMY OF A MURDER for 5 bucks. Me who hates legal dramas. But this film was so well done that I feel compelled to look at it again. Anything that makes me enjoy a court case for two and a half hours is worth me giving it another look.
I liked it how it looked open matte, and I have no plans to buy the Criterion Blu-ray. Though it looks nice cropped:

Just looked on DVD Beaver and I was unaware of the better picture on the Centennial release. I have the older one. Damn you sir for causing this to come to my attention, and when I had planned to rewatch it soon.
No matter, I'll upgrade when it comes out on Blu. It's a Top 10 film for me. Still doing a rewatch soon.

I need a rewatch especially. Saw it only twice and the last time was in 06. Most movies I might have only seen last in 06 are pretty vague in memory but SUNSET BLVD. is one of those that remains vivid for me and remained one of my top favorite films.

Had a $100 gift card for Best Buy since Christmas, decided to settle it once and for all. Normally when I shop at that particular store I am VERY selective of what I buy (especially blu-ray titles). But with a gift card I figure "fuck it" and find whatever I like then get them since that's all they'll offer. For example, RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, I liked it in theaters but it's not something I'm dying to buy. But what else can I get? Might as well go for that. I ended up only buying one blu-ray, TAXI DRIVER for $14.99, can't beat that. So here's the DVD titles.
HANNA PATRIOT GAMES (finally have all the Jack Ryan flicks)* PRIDE AND PREJUDICE RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES TAKEN WAR OF THE WORLDS
When I was trying to figure out what to get I thought "heh, I'll just scope Spielberg flicks. Either the titles I wanted weren't available or I already had. I wanted MUNICH the most, fucking store. Oh well, WAR OF THE WORLDS is fine enough.
* Oh, except THE SUM OF ALL FEARS. Doesn't even exist to me.

I'd pay $100 not to have those films in my house.

Is that Keira's Pride and Prejudice?
And are you a fan of Joe Wright? He directed Atonement, Hanna and Pride and Prejudice, and will be directing Keira in Anna Karenina. After Atonement and Pride and Prejudice, I was a bit disappointed with Hanna, but I think it was in the script. I just found all the characters to be the same. Pity, given Cate Blanchett, Saoirse Ronan and Michelle Dockery (albeit briefly) starred in it. But it's definitely better than the majority of recent films.

He's like Edgar Wright, except without the talent, humour, or anything.

I agree Joe Wright has no discernible directing talent.
Even more puzzling, his arse isn't anything to write home about either.
His success is a complete mystery.
