I'll get both since I'm missing half of the films from each set. Volume 2 is more important for me since VIVA ZAPATA! is my favourite Kazan film, and probably one of my ten or twenty favourite films period, but I'll get both since I'm a sucker for Kazan and hi-def. PANIC IN THE STREETS and WILD RIVER should look great as well. As for release date, it seems they're already shipping from FoxConnect  . No good to me since they don't ship internationally and, even if they did, I'm away from my blu-ray player in less than a fortnight anyway.

Couldn't agree more on the second point though. No idea why his name is on these releases since they're just a collection of what Fox has the right to release (I don't see how Scorsese 'selected them'). Must say though, I'm looking forward to THE TERRENCE MALICK COLLECTION SELECTED BY CHRISTOPHER NOLAN and BORZAGE AT FOX SELECTED BY MICHAEL BAY.

Criterion sale. Enter "FLASH" as a promo code and get 50% off SRP.

Wanted to use it on a preorder of ROSEMARY'S BABY, but nothing doing. Damnit.

Damn straight. The titling of those sets is insulting. Have more people heard of Scorsese? Sure, but for just the odd good film and a whole f*cking pile of mediocre or sh*te ones. Have people heard of Kazan? Well, as far as the general public goes, no. But, as far as the elitists/connoisseurs these boxsets are aimed at, hell yeah. Kazan sh*ts all over Scorsese every day of the week.

Bond set is only $150 at the moment.

http://www.amazon.com/Bond-50-Complete-Collection-Blu-ray/dp/B006U1J5ZY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1348535435&sr=8-1&keywords=James+Bond

Tempted, but.... I dunno. I'd like to pick a few up individually when/if that's an option.

I'm thinking of how many other films I could get. I already own the Bonds twice over. I only buy twice.

Still thinking of taking advantage of the Criterion sale.

REAR WINDOW is like a revelation. Universal had better release titles individually. They probably won't, because they're assholes.

They'll have to eventually. Hopefully sooner than later.

I'll definitely get REAR WINDOW. And if it's true that VERTIGO has the original mono I'll sure get that as well. I think that's all I'll get for Hitchcock on blu.

These look nice, especially REAR WINDOW and VERTIGO. As previously reported MARNIE looks like shit, which is a shame since I was looking forward to losing my MARNIE virginity in hi-def.

Having just seen it in theaters, some of the effects still work great but there are times its dodgy. Kind of like how YOLT in hi-def when bluescreen shots have characters with blue seems surrounding them, though not as bad in THE BIRDS.

As for THE BIRDS, I like seeing all that stuff. laugh Still miffed that the Blu GOLDFINGER still had the strings on the plane snipped. At least I didn't see them.

Were the strings always there theatrically? It's kind of a murky area to get into. For example SUPERMAN III had strings exposed in several shots on the DVD but on theatrical screenings they were airbrushed or whatever other method they used to erase the strings. Somebody just forgot to airbrush them off for the DVD transfer. I always wonder if that was the same case for GOLDFINGER.

I saw GF in the theater a few times, a couple times AFTER reading John Brosnan's book, which I believe mentions the wires, but I don't recall seeing them, just thinking the plane itself didn't look good enough. Don't think I noticed them till laserdisc, actually. Now they seem as obvious as the wires visible all over THE BLACK HOLE (which WERE visible, totally visible, in the theater, time and time and time again, and often looking for them was the only fun to be had that day.)

What I think its the likely culprit is the lens of any projector adds a subtle softening effect. It might be enough to make wires invisible, as I didn't notice them on the SE version of GOLDFINGER through my projector, yet I always do when seeing it on a CRT television or a LCD.

A lot of it has to do with bad conventional projection, I agree. The few times I've seen preview screenings in ideal projection conditions were revelations, especially CAVEMAN'S VALENTINE and MAN WHO WASN'T THERE. The former's DP made it her mission statement to put across the cleanest negative possible, and she succeeded in spades, though i don't know that you can tell the dif on DVD at all.

I'm picking this up tomorrow morning, provided Best Buy has it in stock: http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Rosemarys-Baby-Blu-ray/37146/

Just wish it had a Polanski commentary. And I hope Criterion does THE TENANT.

I've heard trevanian mention TWLIGHT'S LAST GLEAMING several times. I went looking for info on a release of Wilder's FEDORA when I saw the other heading for Blu-ray.

I'm actually gonna try to pick that up too. My friend wants to do a scary movie night and that's one of the flicks she picked, so I figure I might as well get it on blu. It'll be a blind purchase, but in Polanski I trust.

You haven't seen ROSEMARY'S BABY!? You are in for a treat. It's downright Hitchcockian, and as good (IMHO) as top drawer Hitch. It's a movie I'd call more "terror" than "horror". Maybe REPULSION is "better", but RB does more for me in general.

You shall not regret the purchase.

And Ruth Gordon is awesome. Sidney Blackmer too. They make a creepy pair.
