Honestly - to my mind that DVD restoration was fantastic enough, so this Blu-Ray doesnt look like a massive improvement to my eyes. Not enough to make my blu-ray conversion imminent. To be fair, screen captures don't typically do Blu-ray justice. |

| I may get a blu-ray player tomorrow. My folks are outta town and I lugged their 26 inch 720p TV up to my room. I'm still saving up for an HDTV (32 inch, 1080p). |

| I'm thinking of buying a PS3 to play BluRays. Someone told me that they're region free? I don't know jack about video game systems, so I'm wondering if there's any truth to that?

| I think the movie playback feature is region locked, but the actual game discs are not. So you'd have to get Region A blu-rays. I'm not 100% (and my GameFAQs account is currently suspended, so I can't check for you), but that's what I think the situation is.
And nice to hear you're Blu now, Tux. It really does add a lot to the experience. |

| I think I'll watch WEST on Monday. It's my next day off, and I'll go through some of my top films. WEST, CHINATOWN, PICTURE SHOW, etc. I've been peeking at some of my DVDs with my Blu-ray player. CHINATOWN looks stunning, and it's only a DVD. And it's only a 720p TV. Maybe I'll watch CHARADE first. Finally, I'll get to see that film.
Gonna have to look at my 2001 DVD.
My God, it's full of HD... |

Its the hi-def tv that the blu-ray player needs, that might set you back a bit, depending on how much you want to blow on a TV. Not a bad investment though considering how long they last, and for how long we park our butts in front of them. |

| I got a player for 100 dollars.
It's not a 3-D one, though. Not that I care. I don't like 3-D and most of the movies available in 3-D are shit anyway. |

| Rented blu-ray of Piranha 3d (2010). I might buy it when I see a good price. Works just fine in 2d blu-ray. Very colourful film. Its shot to max out its look. The underwater footage looks really sharp in hi-def. Very scenic. Great film with over 2 hours of extras including extended behind the scenes with Kelly Brook and Riley Steele rehearsing their nude underwater sychcronized swimming routine. An unapolegetic orgy of camp, boobs, outlandish camp gore, colour, music, more boobs and more gore. Both Spring Break and killer fish on steroids. The extras are almost as entertaining as the film. |

I'm thinking of picking up CARLITO'S WAY after being bowled over on a recent viewing. |

| I think I just came in my pants. Masters of Cinema are releasing Touch of Evil on Bluray in November. They'll do a far better job than any major studio would have done, and probably better than practically any other distribution company. Six versions of the film - 1998 reconstruction, 1958 preview version, 1958 theatrical cut, all presented in both 1.85:1 and 1.37:1.
Typically wonderful artwork can be seen here.
Also announced:
A Man Vanishes (DVD, 24/10/11) Island of Lost Souls (DVD, 24/10/11) The Ballad of Narayama (DVD/Bluray combo, 24/10/11) Silent Running (Bluray, 14/11/11)
I love Masters of Cinema. They've never let me down. |

| They try to remain region-free as far as possible, but sometimes they just can't be. Guess we'll have to wait for details on that.
Has anyone seen Silent Running, and if so is it worth getting? Mark Kermode likes it very much, which makes it pretty suspect. |
