| Fans not stirred by the grim tone of recent Bond films will be shaken by laughter after seeing the new one.
Daniel Craig has revealed studio bosses ordered director Sam Mendes to add jokes to the script of 007 movie Skyfall.
He said: “When Sam came in, it was key that there’s a lightness of touch in the writing that’s not been as evident in the past two.
“Comedy in Bond films, for me, comes out of the situations people get into.
"They’re exciting, and hopefully heart-stopping, and the comedy comes out of one-liners.”
Producers were worried Craig’s previous Bond efforts, Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, were seen by fans as dour and wanted changes for Skyfall, which is out in the autumn.
Earlier Bond films were known for humour, particularly when Roger Moore played the secret agent in the 70s and 80s.
Boss Barbara Broccoli said Skyfall will include comedy and a cheekier 007.
She said: “It’s got situations you only see in a Bond movie.
"That’s where the wit comes in. We want this to be the best ever.” [i] |

| Hm. This isn't the only time they've talked about SKYFALL having a "lighter touch." They're clearly trying to backpedal after QUANTUM OF SOLACE. But will there be a genuine change here? They say yes, but what we know of the story says no. |

| While I welcome a lighter tone and a willingness to laugh.... DAD is the last example of that approach and for some bizarre and inexplicable reason some of the same writing staff for that film are still allowed to breathe...and write! |

I agree. Not only do I think they're being less than truthful about the true nature of the film, I don't even think a "lighter touch" would work well. I honestly cannot even think of a single one-liner in either of Craig's films that I found humorous or remarkable. I suspect that, if any lighter moments come in the film, they're going to come from Moneypenny realizing she's in over head as a field agent; maybe shades of Mary Goodnight or Rosie Carver. |

| How light can it be if ... - Spoiler:
M dies?
I'm all for something lighter than QOS, but I have a feeling they're trying too hard to separate this one from QOS. Not that they shouldn't, but alas. |

While Bond was being beaten on his balls, his defiance (eg "to the right...to the right...") had the cinema burst into laughter, even though the scene was pretty intense and possibly the last scene you'd ever expect to evoke laughter. I can't see why humour might be discounted in Skyfall, especially if Bond is being a cocky sod in the face of adversity. I'm not sure if the pre-title is connected to the main story in any way, but there might be a chance for some levity there too. |

That bit, and the bit about the sabbatical in QOS, got some hearty laughs in the theaters when I saw the two films. |

| I always like Connery's smug bastard brand of humour.
"Good evening."
*Punches fat Japanese man*
"My dear Colonel Bouvar, you shouldn't have opened that car door by yourself."
*Punches bloke in drag*
"Who is your floor?"
*Accidentally smashes lift glass with elbow*

Oh, I do think Craig is great with a dry, comedic delivery. The dialogue he's been given hasn't always been the best, but he does very well with what he's been given. I'd love to see Craig lighten up and give us a breezier Bond film. |

Or did Dog's ass do the reporting? If so, there's some news in New York she should cover. I'll send an address. |

Not exactly a thigh-slapper of DAFian proportions but a punchy little remark, nonetheless. |

Not exactly a thigh-slapper of DAFian proportions but a punchy little remark, nonetheless. Lines like that I do like (though it's "that last hand nearly killed me"). But I get frustrated when I hear Craig's "now the whole world is going to know you died scratching my balls!" in what was a brilliantly written scene from the novel. Such a crass, classless line. |

Tasteless and inappropriate in a way that completely undermines the scene imo still at least they resisted comic fart noises to accentuate the impact. |

Not a fan? I remember a lot of the CR supporters thought this was so damn funny and added so much to the scene. I agree with you, though, FM. Terrible lines for a terribly adapted scene. Any male with even the slightest respect for their masculinity, tied to a chair, getting their genitals mutilated by a carpet beater or a rope would have been crying, instead of making childish "balls" jokes. The scene had a lot of potential for being a strong piece in a rather weak film, up until it was turned into a joke. And to think CR was so "dark and gritty". EON's handling of the scene was completely opposite that. They were lines I'd expect to find in a C.J. Carpenter fan film. |

| As one of the few folks who *likes* CASINO ROYALE 'round these parts, I feel the need to make the obligatory, "I like the torture scene in CASINO ROYALE" comment. |
