| Two different sources: - Quote :
- Tonight was Sony Pictures' chance to shine at CinemaCon with an impressive 45-minute sizzle reel of their upcoming 2012 line-up with the high point being the first time anyone had a chance to see any footage from the upcoming James Bond movie Skyfall, in this case the very first teaser trailer. Before we got to watch it, Sony's President of Worldwide Distribution Rory Bruer talked about Sony's slate for 2013 and beyond and confirmed that James Bond would indeed be back in 2014 with the 24th movie in the franchise and the follow-up to Skyfall.
So what can we say about the Skyfall teaser trailer? Well, it was a lot of quick-cut images that were hard to dissect on a single viewing, but this is what we can say about it.
It begins with an interrogation scene, possibly a psych evaluation of Bond as someone is doing a word association game with the agent. At first we hear it as narration over a couple of establishing shots of London, starting with "Country" to which Bond responds "England." "Gun" is next, with the response being "Shot," followed by "agent" and "provocateur," and "murder" to which Bond replies "employment." By then, we're into the interrogation room and there are three people behind the glass looking on with Dame Judi Dench's M and Ralph Fiennes' Mallory being the most prominent, though we're not sure who the third person was. (In hindsight, either that third person or the interrogator may have been Albert Finney's character, but we're not sure.) When the interrogator says "Skyfall," Bond doesn't respond so he says "Skyfall" again and Bond says "Done" and gets up to leave.
From there, we got a lot of quick shots of a lot of different images, many of Bond running or falling, either into water or from some height. We see him on a barge in front of the Macao casino with the giant dragons in the background, which we saw on set a few weeks back, and he's running through cars in London, presumably part of his chase after Silva. We also saw the briefest shot of the subway car crash that ends that chase.
There was absolutely no sign of Javier Bardem's character anywhere in the teaser, unless he went by too fast for us to notice and probably only one shot each of Naomie Harris and Berenice Marlohe (and we're not 100% of the second one).
It ends with Bond saying "Some men are coming to kill us. We've got to kill them first."
And that's about all we could get on one viewing, but it definitely got us very excited to see it a second or third time. Since we're guessing the teaser trailer will be on Avengers next week (just like every other movie), maybe it will be online sometime soon and you can watch it for yourself.
Skyfall opens November 9. Look for our write-up on the rest of what we saw during the Sony presentation later tonight. http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=89628 - Quote :
- What exactly does the movie title Skyfall refer to?
We’re not getting any answers out of James Bond.
The first trailer for Daniel Craig’s third outing as 007 (due in theaters Nov. 19) begins with the British superspy in a debriefing room, playing word association with an examiner while Judi Dench’s M and Ralph Fiennes, apparently a member of the government agency, look on dourly through one-way glass.
“Country …” the examiner begins.
“… England,” Bond replies flatly.
“Gun …” the man says.
“… Shot,” Bond says.
“Agent …”
“… Provocateur,” Bond says. (Hey, maybe he’s just a fan of luxury lingerie.)
“Murder …”
“… Employment,” Bond growls.
“Skyfall …”
Bond hesitates.
The examiner repeats it: “Skyfall …”
“… Done,” Bond says finally, standing up and walking toward the glass while Dench and Fiennes look like they just swallowed their chewing gum.
Clearly, 007 knows what this means, and it’s most likely not good news. The next series of shots in the trailer include Bond storming in through a door, rapidly firing a handgun, and other assorted action scenes. Then we see a series of coffins draped in the British flag.
“Some men are coming to kill us,” Bond says. “We’re going to kill them first.”
Okay, let’s do it. http://insidemovies.ew.com/2012/04/25/cinemacon-2012-james-bond-not-interested-in-games-in-first-trailer-for-007s-skyfall/ |

| In the other thread, I stated my first thought was of Ian Fleming's THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN. (Though it doesn't seem as though Bond has been brainwashed.)
Anyway, can't wait to see it. |

| I kinda hope the 'Agent ... Provocateur' is a little joke on Bond's part. |

I think it's certainly supposed to be a clever little wink at Bond's personality. As to whether it's an intentional joke on Bond's part or a legitimate response, I doubt the film will provide a definite answer. |

| Been reading the Empire article today, Mendes says in it that Skyfall is more 'playful' than CR or QOS. The above would fit that. |

| Christ I had one of these word association things in my YOU ONLY DIE THRICE super8 bond in 1975. Hope this one is better, mine had him responding wilth 'kill' and 'sex' to all words except 'japanese' to which he responded, 'geisha.' Then 'geisha?" ' 'sex'
More importantly ... will SIR JAMES MOLONEY finally make an appearance? (Eon, he was in mine first.) |

| Intriguing bit of revelation. Where would this interrogation fit in - after the early attack on MI6 or sometime else? Can't wait to see this teaser! I'm sure it'll be out much sooner than with the release of MIB3. |

| I'm guessing following the bombing, which will happen immediately after the title sequence. Bearded Bond is called out of leave (thanks to a screwed up mission in Turkey), driven to the underground safe house near Smithfields Market, and given a psychological evaluation. |

| What bothers me most about the teaser is the mention of a lot of running....is Bond the Running Man?
Granted, I think this teaser was printed before they landed in Turkey but I'll be disappointed if we don't get teasers of at least one major action scene that's synonymous with Bond movies. And it's not running  |

Craig's Bond sure is. Lots of running in CASINO ROYALE and QUANTUM OF SOLACE. |

I think Bond means that he's done with the interrogation, and that Skyfall is something he doesn't want to talk or free associate about. It might also mean that Skyfall is done (as in that it's some previous operation 'Operation Skyfall' that's completed), but that would just be a further, double meaning to Bond's words. |

Or it could mean, in the future tense, that it is as good as done. Maybe whatever Skyfall is hasn't occurred yet. |

Good point. I didn't think of that, mostly because of the "it's". If Bond had been ending the interrogation/assessment, he would have said "we're". That said, "Skyfall" might be an operation where Bond and MI6 intentionally loose Patrice and/or Silva on the world, with the intention of following them back to some higher power (in Patrice's case, that power would be Silva). But when things go awry and MI6 is attacked, parliament starts asking serious questions about M's judgement and appoints Gareth Mallory to oversee the agency. |

| Another review of the trailer...love the bit about the train....
When it comes to blockbusters, there is always a certain time window a few months in advance of the release date when you know that a teaser trailer is imminent. With Skyfall, the latest installment of the James Bond franchise, due out on November 9th, that means that we are in that window now. While it has not yet been announced when the trailer will either be arriving online or in theaters, I can tell you that it’s been completed. How can I tell you that? Because I’ve just seen it.
All this week I have been reporting from the annual event known as CinemaCon in Las Vegas and I have just walked out of the Sony presentation where they world premiered the first teaser for Sam Mendes’ Skyfall and I must say that I was impressed.
The trailer begins with a shot of Bond (Daniel Craig) from behind looking at the city of London. Then we hear someone in a voice-over say the word “Country” and Bond saying, “England.” It seems he is playing some sort of word association game. We then hear the mystery voice say “Gun” and Bond replies “Shot” as we view a target at the end of a shooting range. We then see that 007 is in an interrogation room where he is being asked the questions and being watched by Ralph Fiennes and some other people through two-way mirrors. The man sitting in front of Bond says “Agent,” and the superspy replies “Provocateur.” As more images flash on the screen the word association game continues: “Murder” “Employment.” The music then drops out as we flash back to the interrogation room and the man running the test says. “Skyfall.” After a pause, Bond says, “Done,” and stands up from the table. Another huge montage begins and we see shots of helicopters, giant fireballs causing a mysterious silhouette, shots of the Shanghai nightlife, Bond standing over a long row of coffins draped with the flag of England, and a subway car crashing through a tunnel wall with incredible force. As the trailer comes to an end we hear Bond say, “Someone is coming to kill us. We’re going to kill them first.”
From beginning to end the trailer was impressive and had a very slick look to it that we don’t typically see from Mendes’ movies. While it all came in flashes, the movie looks like it is very action packed and tense. As excited as I was for Skyfall going into the presentation, I’m even more excited now.

Odds are that it looks pretty damn great, with Deakins and all. I have an appreciation for some of the photography in QOS, but even just judging from the limited set videos we have, Skyfall is building up to be in a different class altogether. All of the Deakins-Mendes and Deakins-Coen collaborations I've seen have been very atmospheric films. |

I have no concerns about that. None at all. People talk about the way Babs is lusting after an Oscar the way she does Craig, and that this is reflected in her cast and crew choices. But the way I see it, if someone like Deakins is available, you take him. Bond has been a part of cinema for 50 years - the series deserves someone like Deakins. No, my main concern is the overall look of the trailer. Who decides what goes in? For all we know, it could be an incoherent mish-mash of money shots, and that's the last thing we need right now. |

It's worked for Bond before. Indeed. To be honest with you, I long ago stopped paying attention to trailers, because they don't give me any proper gauge of how good a movie will be. I avoided watching Master and Commander in theaters because the teaser made it look like a piece of shit Pirates of the Caribbean clone. When I rented it about a year later I was shocked to see the actual movie was a gem - a well-paced and surprisingly accurate look at life in the Royal Navy in the age of fighting sail. Trailers are by nature meant to draw in the coveted demographic of young, stupid, horny teenagers. And so trailers show money shots to try to get through to their ADD ravaged brains to get them to spend more of Mommy and Daddy's money at the movie theater. |
