The "Biggest" Movie Star Right Now

Among current actors and actresses, who do you think is hottest commodity? The actor whose star is at a zenith? The one who commands the biggest paycheck?

I ask this question because I honestly don't know, but figure somebody on this site does.

Morgan Freeman? Bruce Willis? Leonardo di Caprio?

A tidy sum of cash. But it'd be interesting to know who has had a sustained string (say, over the course of five years) of massive paydays.

Channing Tatum's career is on a hot trajectory right now. Both THE VOW and 21 JUMP STREET were big hits; he's got MAGIC MIKE coming out this summer (he's on the cover of the new Entertainment Weekly) and he's got GI JOE: RETALIATION coming out as well. He's just been signed to star in WHITE HOUSE DOWN, sort of a 'Die Hard in the White' type of film (too bad the Mitch Rapp novel that covered this same storyline didn't get produced first).

Tatum isn't getting the biggest paycheck...yet.

Robert Downey Jr is on a roll. Both with THE AVENGERS and Sherlock Holmes 2. He seems to be holding up well.

Noomi Rapace is hot right now, but not necessarily the highest paid actress.

Clint Howard, I think.

Not surprised to hear about RDJ. He's carrying three seperate franchises right now, after all.

With star salaries like that, though, it's easy to see how Hollywood's movie budgets have become obscenely bloated.

RDJ was also my first thought at reading the thread title. He's become the most consistently entertaining leading man, as popular now in places like South America and Russia as in the States. More roles other than Holmes and Iron Man couldn't hurt him though. I'd say Fassbender is getting there too... talented and he's got a catchy name to help. Try marketing Channing Tatum in Armenia.

Yeah, Fassbender is blowing up -- I love that he keeps playing Bondesque roles that aren't Bond. It makes it easy to pretend.

Chris Hemsworth is topping IMDB's starmeter. He's also been offered multi-million dollar contracts: one of the lowest being $2m and that was before Thor. Can you imagine now...

I love that he was essentially hired for THOR because he was a nobody. His biggest part before that was Kirk's Dad Who Dies in the first five minutes of Trek '09. They needed someone who was cheap because RDJ and Samuel L were expensive -- same reason they offed Norton for Ruffalo.

And yet he handled himself surprisingly well in THOR, pulled off being a movie star overnight, and now my girlfriend reads Thor comics, which she had never considered touching before, and it's largely due to Hemsworth's abs.

Hemsworth turned out to be a great lead, very earnest and can be pretty funny at times when given the chance. He plays a hero very well. Heck, his Kirk's Dad Who Dies was more heroic than nuKirk.

So yeah, more women drawn to him the better, less and less of mopey teenage vampires please.

Blimey. I've never even heard of Tatum or Hemsworth.

Tatum was actually pretty funny in 21 JUMP STREET, he should stick to comedies and get away from romance novel adaptations.
