I'll obsess a little. It struck me that Don and Peggy saw the trailer for CR, not the actual movie. It bugged me that the movie doesn't start with music. So I checked, and the trailer in fact does.

Also, Easter '67 fell on March 26. This may conflict with Megan mentioning a week in regard to her screen test, shot on March 20.

And Pete took a crap at 3:19PM on the 25th.

So I watched the YOLT bit again.

Don's up to his old tricks.

Peggy's happy when she's working.

Pete is turning into old Don without the charm or looks.

I have a feeling Roger is going to get more and more weird in S6. I sincerely hope he pulls this naked stunt in the office. I will laugh my ass off, no pun intended.

Now, was the YOLT song out by early April? The flick wasn't released til June. Hmm... Whatevs.

No, but it wasn't playing for the characters, just the audience. They've even had modern music on the show for end credits.

Here's hoping the series finale jumps ahead to 2008 so they can feature "Another Way to Die" over Don's funeral.

I guess some people are upset that Megan stabbed her friend in the back to get the audition. I like the development from Megan who said how cynical everyone at SCDP was. "No one smiles, they smirk." Lane got corrupted, now Megan.

I forget. A couple in S1 as I recall. Maybe even after.

At least I think so. If not modern, at least from after the episode was set.

Gonna rewatch the whole series pretty soon so I guess I'll find out. One episode every night. I went through the first four seasons like I was binging, so huge chunk sort of blurred together. Same thing happened with BSG. Hard to recall episodes individually apart from the real stand outs like "The Suitcase".

The big difference for me with S5 is that most of the episodes felt like they were more unique. Trying to chainwatch S5 doesn't really work as well as any other season. Every other season feels like one long movie to me.

Not sure when I'll get back to watching MAD MEN. I may, in a month or so, go through S5 again, having now seen the finale. S5 itself is almost Don's YOLT.

Yeah not only was S5 as a whole more focused, but the episodes individually were as well.

But all of that meshes with my dream scenario (never happen) for next year, which has Don drafted into screentests to replace Connery for OHMSS.
He absolutely kicks ass on the fight part, but totally blows the love scene, becoming (for the first time in his life) utterly self-conscious and Pete Campbell-like. (actually I think I like Pete's wife more for Moneypenny.)

I'd see Jared Harris as Bill Tanner. Perhaps Duck Phillips could be the villain in MADRAKER. Sir Hugo Duck. He'll have a scene where he drunkenly infiltrates Universal Exports and takes a shit in M's office.

Draper Bond: Benzedrine. I'll need it if I'm going to keep my wits about me tonight.

Roger Felix: (peers over) Hey, pass me some. And a scotch.

Felix downs the scotch and bennies, starts seeing dancing elves. Smiles.

I honestly love that final, final moment. "Are you alone?", the pause, then that look.

I've had that moment in my head for the last day and a half.

Decided to give Mad Men a go on Netflix.

Watched the first two episodes. I can see why people like it. Everything about it is just done well.

However, something about it just doesn't capture my interest and I don't really feel compelled to keep watching. I dunno. Maybe I'm just a tasteless moron.

Keep watching, Wadester. I guarantee you'll be hooked by the end of the first season. Chain watch if you have the time.

The first episode is okay, but they turn everything up to 11 in terms of sexism, etc. The show gets very good very soon.

But it's probably not for everybody.

Many of the show's very best moments were in the past season, so yes, it gets better from there.

Season one lays a good foundation, but you gotta get past those first few episodes.

In the end I look at MAD MEN as simply damn good television. It's very well written, produced, and acted. I find it very engaging, but not everyone will. It's not a show about the 60's, but it's a show very much steeped in that culture.

For what it's worth, I'd rank the seasons...

They're all really good television, though. But it's slow burn television, it's not like some asinine CSI show.

Heh, I know what you mean. I forgot where I first *cough* obtained the pilot episode, but I just remember some nong posting a comment in all caps along the lines of "OMG WOW THINGS WERE SO DIFFERENT BACK THEN!"

Some folks don't like melancholy and despair, and that was what this season trafficked in. But I thought this season, in many ways, was the fulfillment of everything MAD MEN is about.
