Still no Gerry Anderson's UFO film though ...

One of the modelbuilder guys in New Deal Studios (formerly Hunter Grartzner Industiries, AWESOME model guys) has the deal to direct UFO, but when I talked to him about HUGO he said UFO was still a really hard sell. He is totally committed to doing it, and doing it old-school style (which may be part of the problem of selling it.)
Maybe we'll get something like THUNDERBIRDS was SUPPOSED to be (I actually enjoyed the THUNDERBIRDS movie a little -- I'm no devotee of the original, so I wouldn't recognize the desecrations that I presume are all over it _ but on a visual level it just wasn't right.) Wow, I just remembered having a huge FIREBALL XL5 toy as a kid. The stuff that gets thrown away when your back is turned ... (sigh)
On a related note, has anybody seen the looney news about SPACE: 2099 happening? I actually read an interview with the guy doing it (he had something to do with the V revival too), though mainly he was saying, 'we cant' discuss _____ yet.'
Oh, and the BLOOD & CHROME thing has a weird tech angle. They couldn't pay to store the old battlestar sets, so they did the world's most comprehensive scan of them before they tore 'em down, and that is the basis for their virtual production -- having perfect recreations in computer of actual sets. I'm really kinda interested in seeing how well it works, whether the show is any good or not.

I've heard about Space 2099 for a couple of years now, didn't know it was going beyond teasers.
I'd rather the original Galactica set got redone with new effects as done by this David Kerin chap. At least unlike TOS-Remastered it wouldn't cause a ruckus. I know I'm alone in this (oh, misery) but it'd be something. Never happen though as Universal would rather BSG78 had never happened.
with permission:
the shot of Starbuck vaping a raider on Ice Planet Zero is better here unlike the original which was some weird mesh from Saga of a Star World.

Taking a Break From All Your Worries (Season 3, nuBSG)
One of my all-time favourite episodes for its examination of the character of Gaius Baltar, who has perhaps the most interesting arc throughout the entire series -- well, Baltar and Lee Adama, probably. My girlfriend and I are making our way through the series, and it's odd rewatching it. Seeing this episode again I'm picking up on a lot of plot threads that don't resolve until waaaay later (most notably what Baltar whispered to Gaeta). Probably the only thing I'd hold against the episode is its title, which is totally inappropriate and apparently a holdover from when the bar that appears in the B-plot was originally the focus of a dropped A-plot.

There was a trailer a while back, I can't recall if they'd made the decision to go web only with it or actually broadcast it.
Thanks, I'll keep my fingers crossed. Sounds like a great idea for a series. The more BSG the better. I would love to see a series based on the original cylons (Chief, Saul, Ellen and the others) arrival from the past at Caprica, and the building of 6 and the others. Kind of pick up post Caprica, which I guess is what Blood and Chrome is doing.

In lieu of no Best of Both Worlds and my TJ Hooker boxset being buried for a George Murdock tribute viewing we go to a time when
There are those who believe that life here began out there, far across the universe, with tribes of humans who may have been the forefathers of the Egyptians, or the Toltecs, or the Mayans. Some believe that there may yet be brothers of man who even now fight to survive somewhere beyond the heavens.
when frack (original spelling) was barely used and not as hip now, when felgercarb was the alternative...
the episode chosen owing to time constraints is Fire in Space
this is pretty much Towering Inferno in space. Owing to its inclusion with Living Legend for Mission Galactica it's sort of seen as a sequerl to Living Legend but is pretty standalone. Alas in true BSG78 fashion it's too standalone. There is nothing to connect it with previous episodes beyond Sheba (the ever delightful Anne Lockhart) and subsequent episodes. This is the last appearance of the Cylons until the final episode. They were intended for Season 2 but disguised as humans (indeed, intended to 'be' the Battlestar Pegasus' crew luring Galactica to their fate). The criticisms of the episode I guess are numerous. It's one of the few episodes to reuse music, subsequent ones like War of the Gods had a lot of original music. The SFX and lack of budget tell, much reuse of Viper shots and pilot launches. It's one of Maren Jensen's last appearance as Athena. Much of her lines and so forth were put to Sheba. More is the pity as Jensen was finally coming along in terms of acting. There's much of Boxey and that blasted cyberdog thing. I mean, sure the 'real' Muffet was killed by a falling building but surely there were other dogs, I mean daggits in the fleet? 220 ships and you're telling me there's no other animals? The episode I guess next to any of the new stuff is useless but BSG78 commanded high ratings for much of its run. At least the fire here was real as opposed to BSG80's Superscouts when it was imposed over the footage. This is the only use of the space suits, the only sighting of the Fire Chief bla bla bla
George Murdock is excellent in his vaguely Quincy/Dr McCoy role. On the quiet he had a lot of screentime in BSG78 from Lost Planet of the Gods right through to Greetings from Earth in which he had his share of action. Cassie was sort of his Nurse Chapel (changed to a nurse in the second episode after the network deemed a 'Socialator' not suitable for a family audience, so they say). Fair credit to Murdock for acting in this.
RIP my man.

Watched Part 1 of "Saga of a Star World". Fairly entertaining since I hooked into it's wavelength.

Part 3 of "Saga of a Star World"
Colorful 70's entertainment. It's a wonder what Moore did with this setup, and knowing the newer series so well really hurts my view of the original one. The story here really is not laid out well.

It never rains, but it pours.
Golly imagine if Edward James Olmos had played Starbuck. What a bender that would've been when Messiah Moore did his bit.
Pity old sport if you are hauling through the series. If Saga does for you imagine what The Young Lords would or Murder on the Rising Star (complete with skimpy shorts in the Tri-ad matches). Oh ho-ho-ho :)
Gosh I feel like digging up my episode guide which more or less laid into BSG80 let alone some of the weaker '78 episodes. Makes me positively nostalgic from the days when frack wasn't the hip thing and Cylons were those lumbering automatons and Patrick Macnee had a narration and the only tail Starbuck had was Cassieopeia's or Bree's or Athena's...

I posted this to Facebook with the comment that I'm willing to take a chance on this show. Even if I still feel the finale to BSG ruined the whole franchise.

Somehow good to see no less than the original Cylon raider and Basestar in the opening narration. Shame the original Battlestar configuration isn't used however briefly. The PS2 game uses it before it morphs into the Ronald D. Moore version Galactica. Only able to watch a small part.

I didn't even know B&C is already on some site. It took me a while to figure out where, after I'd not even known it had started. So much for promotion.
Seems it's edited online, and the unrated version will be on Blu-ray in February. I'll wait and rent it.
With my opinion of BSG getting weaker after season 2 and sputtering out as a mystical mess, and CRAPRICA being a huge waste of time, I've got no expectations for this series either way.
