Mediocre at worst, perhaps, but "worst song ever"? Hyperbole.

That was originally my plan but in Britain, at least, it's hard to escape hearing a new Bond song. This one was played on BBC News earlier today (not in its entirety, obviously).

I've been avoiding spoilers very successfully but decided that listening to the song can't give away too much.

The same. And besides, I will have pretty much forgotten what the song sounds like by November 9.

SKYFALL sounds pretty contemporary to me, even if it doesn't have a wobbly Dubstep bass or a Trent Reznor-style industrial produciton. Nor is it ersatz new wave like a lot of stuff out there today.
Or this.

I don't actually mind that at all, if you listen to it out of context. I doubt it was ever intended to be a submission for SKYFALL (it was actually recorded in 2009), and was rather a straight alt-rock song that was written and recorded before the band realised that there was an upcoming Bond film, at which point they uploaded it to YouTube billing it as a SKYFALL theme.
As an actual theme, it would suck horribly - but I I turned on the radio and it started playing, I wouldn't mind it.

I think Adele has an overwhelming tide of support so far for her take on the Bond theme.
Far better than the last one....

I listened about 5 times to this preview. I have to admit, I was underwhelmed, even bored, at the first listen. I've warmed to the arrangement - the music is gorgeous. But something seems off with Adele's vocals, in particular her diction. It could be the poor quality of the preview, but I couldn't make out a good third of the lyrics. I couldn't find the lyrics of the entire preview anywhere.

Substitute magnificent for cliched, by-the-numbers and pastiche and I'd agree. Derivative, lazy, formulaic rubbish, just as bad as the trainwreck of a film it accompanied. Choosing Adele has been a bad move from day one IMO, because all it was ever gonna do was encourage the same boringly unimaginative "safety" in the track.

A Bond theme should have balls, be the best it can be or at the very least try and distinguish itself a bit.

This one has plenty of balls in that drum groove or the crunchy low brass.

The last time they went the "daring" route we got AWTD. No thanks.

Being daring is nice, as long as it results in a good song. That wasn't the case for AWTD for sure. Anyway, I'm gonna wait to hear the whole thing on Oct 5th and then I'll never listen to it again just so I can listen to it fresh with whatever Daniel Kleinman has up his sleeve.

And at the oppsoite end of the spectrum, we have "Another Way to Die", which you lambasted mercilessly.

Why pick Adele if you try to drown her in overproduced noise, which is what it sounded like to me?
First thought was that this was TWINE 2 - a song that sounded like somebody had their finger on the record slowing it down as it spun.
Second thought was that this might ramp/amp up like DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER ... in which case I'm sure I'll be happy with it.

The clip sounds likes it's in drowned in reverb, which doesn't help. Hopefully the full song's a bit clearer and in better quality.

Seems a bit silly to have released this short clip. Why not just wait till Friday and spring the whole thing on us?
On the other hand, at least I know now not to get my hopes up for Friday.

they wanted to go this route back then too, but Amy Winehouse unravelled
it's not so much the singer as the quality of the song that is important they should really hire a song writer first and then let them choose the singer
the snippit we've had so far isn't enough to judge I often find promo snippits have the opposite effect on me than that intended
