Are any of you living in the Northeast preparing today? In NYC, the subways are going down at 7pm and Bloomberg ordered the evacuation of roughly 375,000 residents, so far. I'm about 2 blocks away from one of the evacuation zones, so I'm hoping this doesn't turn out as bad as they say it'll be. Heading to the store should be fun... I'll need cigarettes and booze, for sure. |

| Yeah, hope Sandy isn't as vicious as they're making it out to be. I've got family in NY and NJ. Hope you guys tide it through, they're talking about power outages that can last 7-10 days. |

| The media is probably over-hyping it. But you never know. |

In NYC, the subways are going down at 7pm and Bloomberg ordered the evacuation of roughly 375,000 residents Yes, but more importantly, what are the political ramifications of the storm? How Governor Romney and President Obama "handle the storm" will play a deciding role in which one of them gets elected President. http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/decision2012/hurricane-sandy-highlights-how-obama-and-romney-respond-to-disasters/2012/10/29/85ae66a2-21db-11e2-ac85-e669876c6a24_story.html We can't even have a storm or natural disaster in this country without people trying to create, or exploit, a political angle. I'm sure President Obama will handle the hurricane just fine, though, since his administration created the hurricane and have steered it towards New York in an effort to distract people from the economy and Libya. |

Is Obama riding and steering the storm kind of like this?: |

I'm not sure how they're doing it; I just know that the technology to create hurricanes started under the previous administration. I remember reading several mainstream news articles where Democrats blamed President Bush for creating Hurricane Katrina, and then many of America's brightest, most articulate residents living in the Lower 9th Ward claimed that the President aimed Katrina for New Orleans, then had the Army Corps of Engineers place explosives on the levees so that Lake Ponchatrain would be released and would flood into New Orleans and would kill or displace thousands of 9th Warders (who are, outside of CalTech and MIT, the most precious intellectual resources this country has). The hurricane was meant to cover over the fact that the levees had been deliberately destroyed, thus concealing all evidence of a crime. Creating a natural disaster in order to flood an entire city and kill millions of people? Give me a break. Sounds like something out of some horrible, awful movie. |

| Coastal towns and cities got hit very hard.
We were lucky. The storm didn't do much of anything to us. We didn't even lose power. |

| Not too much damage here. A few tree limbs fell. I think more destruction occurred at the party I went to last night.
Just stepped on my balcony and noticed lower Manhattan is still out of power. Poor bastards. |
