“To me, it felt more like an action movie than a Bond movie,” the American director tells Mandrake at the premiere of his latest film, Django Unchained, at the Empire Leicester Square, in London.
Tarantino, whose hits include Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs, says it is a mistake for film fans to expect success for Skyfall: “I don’t think that is the one you should be rooting for.” |

How are we defining "success" here? Is he talking about box office gross, critical reception, awards or sucking Harvey Weinstein's dick? |

| It's already a bloody good Bond movie that has chalked up a billion at the box office, Quentin ... any awards it might happen to pick up will just be the icing on the cake.
Is he still pissed off that he didn't get to direct CR? It's looking like it. |

| Admittedly, at the first viewing of Skyfall, it didn't feel like a Bond film all the way through. The next viewing it changed all that, and it's definitely Craig's best (and undoubtedly a) Bond film.
Maybe he's only seen it once? Everybody is entitled to their own opinion.
I still think we would have been treated to a better CR had he directed it... One more in line with Fleming's novel. |

Exactly. If Tarantino doesn't like SKYFALL then he doesn't like SKYFALL. I didn't like it myself when I first saw it, although I've come to consider it an excellent entry in the Bond series (albeit not worthy of all the hype and not as good as CASINO ROYALE). I'm curious to know which Bond films Tarantino does like. I seem to recall that he was very particular about wanting Brosnan for his version of CASINO ROYALE, and also that he wanted to make CASINO ROYALE as a straight sequel to ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE, set in the 1960s (!), so I'm guessing Tarantino has a fondness for, well, the Brosnan and Lazenby eras. I also remember a comment by Tarantino along the lines of: "Dalton was initially what I thought I wanted when it came to Bond, but then I came to feel that he wasn't." I'm unaware of his views on Connery, Moore or Craig, and I don't recall his ever citing any particular films as favourites. |

| He wasn't crazy about the Brosnan films although he did like him in the role. He cited Licence to Kill as one of his favorites. |

And yet he calls Skyfall un-Bondian and a generic action movie? That's not to say LTK didn't have its moments of Bondianism, but at least Skyfall felt more British than American. |

| Here's him in 1997 talking with critics about Tomorrow Never Dies and how he wants to do Casino Royale. Suppose it's no surprise this has been on his mind for many years and he's still butt-hurt over not getting the chance.

That's not to say LTK didn't have its moments of Bondianism, but at least Skyfall felt more British than American. SKYFALL may be set in Britain and portray British attitudes but I think an argument could be made that stylistically it is far more American than either of Craig's previous entires. |

| We need to define what constitutes an "American" style. |

| For every word Tarantino says that puts barriers between himself and Bond, there's a song in my heart.
PS--Not sure SF was, on the whole, as Bondian as CR, but the Macau section was Bond in purest spades. |

Now there's a surprise. Speaking of directors on Bond films the most peculiar has to be Robert Bresson liking For Your Eyes Only http://torontomovieguy.blogspot.ca/2010/05/bresson-in-germany.html |

| QT should just do an homage flick to the spy genre if he loves Bond so much. He can play a Jaws lookalike and have his character blown up on screen or something. |

https://youtu.be/urR-5fKINyc?t=8m45s Tarantino on James Bond: "He's like kind of a cold-blooded guy." He obviously didn't read the novel thoroughly because, in this interview, Tarantino seems to think Bond kills Vesper. |

| All of Skyfall is a Bond movie. The first half is classic Bond, the second half is the kind of fare we have gotten since roughly the Brosnan era (more or less). |

Not sure about Flint, definitely remember his name being mentioned in connection with a proposed U.N.C.L.E. flick. |
