No, it means you're an idiot. ALIEN was released thirty-three years ago. Given its content, the trailer probably wouldn't have been shown to anyone except those in high-rated films. Since audiences would have to be at least seventeen in order to have been able to see it at the time. Which means they would be at least fifty years old today. And yet you somehow expect everyone to instantly recognise that the PROMETHEUS trailer contains similar elements to the ALIEN trailer despite the only people who could recall seeing the orginal trailer being fifty years old or more.
Hence, you're an idiot.
In fairness the Alien trailer is/has been available on Youtube, certain dvd boxsets and is likely familiar to a reasonable proportion of people who admire or applaud that piece of work. The design, titling and sound are also featured in the actual film of course.

Stop confusing me with your reasonableness!
Either way, I still think it was moronic of j7 to expect an entire audience to instantly recognise the PROMETHEUS trailer as being an homage to the ALIEN trailer and applauding it accordingly. But it would have been funny to be there - my mind's eye is now filled with a vision of a tiny little man going off the rails in front of an audience that is almost peeing their collective selves with laughter at the sight of it.

Also, anybody who has actually made a study of ad campaigns or title sequences would know it immediately, regardless of age. I've only seen a couple of films that Saul Bass worked on, but I could pick his title sequences out if you flashed subliminal frames at me.

Prisoner Monkeys, Aka James Page of MI6 of Washington State, USA, is trying to start a fight with me so he can file a complaint and get me banned again.
I'm not falling for it.
What are you doing here anyway, James?
Shouldn't you be at MI6 minding your store?

Let's not call each other names over a film trailer.
Back to Charlize Theron's tits.

Don't fear the man-hug, Hilly old chap.
Might have been a working title for Blue Oyster Cult's biggest hit, we'll never know.

I've been on the shaky end of a man hug when working on the tour buses. Lumme. Okay, I'll brave the storm this time :)

Our first clip from PROMETHEUS:
Nothing too special, but the movie sure does look purdy. We get a brief taste of the score, too.

Compared to the Nostromo landing sequence in ALIEN, it looks and sounds dull as hell.

Oh, I think it looks fine. (As I said above.) It's clearly been edited into "clip" form, with lots of awkward jumps. It will play differently in context.
But yes, it sounds considerably duller than the original ALIEN. If you mute the clip and play part of the "The Landing" cue by Goldsmith beneath it, it becomes 100% more arresting. A few seconds of score isn't much to go by, but I doubt Streitenfeld will be up there with Goldsmith, Horner, or Goldenthal.

I wasn't blown away by the clip, but I do think the CGI looks pretty damn good.

Well, it's not much of a clip.
But I'm with you on the CGI. It looks almost painterly.

The latest TV spot has gone from gruesome and spoilerish to merely comical (and spoilerish).

I'm listening to Streitenfeld's score now (well, to be accurate, it's by Streitenfeld with two cues by Harry Gregson-Williams). Better than I expected, but nothing the write home about, either.
FWIW, it directly quotes Goldsmith's "The Landing" in the cue "Friend from the Past."
