I wasn't sure what section in which to put this, but here goes.

It's no secret that, reality aside, television programming has improved dramatically over the last decade. In fact, many would argue that there's far more quality content on TV now than film. Granted, there's a lot more on TV, but there hasn't always been this much good stuff.

Personally, I haven't felt compelled to go to the movies for a while. That might be in part because winter is usually when all the shitty movies are relegated for release, but I'm more than happy sitting back at home and watching all the good stuff on TV. Homeland, House of Cards, Parks and Rec ... those are just some of the shows I love.

So what say you?

Right now, television is delivering higher-quality entertainment than commercial cinema. I think that's undeniable fact.

But the highbrow stuff is still largely cinema's domain. This may change very soon, but as of 2013, it's still the case.

Indeed, I'd plump for TV. More often than not I look forward to new TV shows rather than films. Whatever the current crop of US stuff is or foreign bits like Spiral.

Depends what you mean with "commercial cinema."
