As someone who has his own batch mental problems (yet heavily medicated), I feel for the guy. |

| Given that all I can do is check IP addresses and not put a complete ban on them, I've gone and reopened his account as SILHOUETTE MAN, in the hope that this constant flood of duplicate/suspicious accounts will stop, because constantly having to clean this mess up is time-consuming for both myself and the mods here. If he accepts a return as SILHOUETTE MAN, all anybody here has to do is steer clear of him. It's not as if he was a j7 type nuisance prior to his suspension, he was an acceptable poster who had one bad day and flew off the handle. The way I see it, we either give him a final chance or we spend the next few months detecting and removing dupe accounts (and also potentially suspecting and ignoring genuine new members through fear they could be SM) instead of posting on the boards. This isn't something I'm glad to have done, and we really don't need any kick-off over this. Those with a severe dislike for SM, please just don't bother with him or rise to any bait he may aim at you.
And, as I've said elsewhere, the mods handled the situation perfectly when SM kicked off. But the dupe accounts need to stop and the forums need to move on, which they can't if there's a constant duper on the loose bombing threads under one alias after another. |

| The limitations of this forum's format are irritating. No IP bans, no way to grant one admin powers beyond one, ect. I'm reluctant to agree with SM's return. The fact that he is returning merely because he kept coming back creating a dozen accounts and that its anxieting is unfortunate. Hopefully he doesn't lose his temper again, it's best we ignore him until he starts to seriously geopardize this forum. |

| It's kind of funny. Gushing as he is about not going off again and doing what he did, in spite of saying this at the time, saying I was doing the right thing and still doing it.
As you say Python, I'll ignore him or at best glance aside at his posts. I can't imagine Ambler would be laying out the red carpet.
I'm going to lie down in a dark room. |

| Sorry to threadjack, but I'm curious as to whether this forum is supposed to be viewable by all and sundry. I'm not a mod, and as far as I know I have no special privileges not accorded to other members, yet I can view this forum (and, as you can see, can post in it as well :) ).
I'd never even heard of "The War Room" until a few hours ago, when I noticed it and entered to have a look around. So what's the deal? Has it been newly opened to all members (or to certain members, say with a certain number of posts and/or an established history of non-jackass behaviour), or am I here purely by dint of a glitch or something?

| I think M must have given you permission. You're a mature and respected member and I think you deserve to know the inner workings of the forum. Especially if you're concerned about the future of this forum with the departure of Harms.
You're not the only non-mod here, BTW. Ambler, Fae, Salomé, Santa and Brown also have access.
Hope that explains things. |

| Actually I think M might be in the process of creating an acutal hidden Mod area, which I think is a no-brainer, for any board. The sudden wider exposure of the War Room might just be a transitory development or glitch. I don't know though and I don't want to debate it either. It's M's call. |

Couldn't have put it better. I was amending some permissions yesterday and noticed that a few great members didn't have access to this room. That oversight has thus been corrected. - tiffanywint wrote:

In all honesty, I don't think we even need a mod-only area that much. We've only had two or three problem members here, plus having this hidden area has arguably done the forums more harm than good, due to members discussing problems in here as opposed to posting on the boards as a solution. And then there was all the crap Laz (as temp admin) had to deal with last year when the hidden section was "outed". If anything, I'm working towards the END of hidden areas, not the expansion/recreation of such. The main boards need to become more alive, that's priority here in my opinion. |

Here's where I stand on SILHOUETTE MAN: Decent member, made a good amount of posts, something we all want from anybody who registers here. Got into a slanging match when a debate became too heated. He's not the first person this has happened to and, sadly, probably won't be the last. Was sorry for his actions and, even when possibly returning under dupe accounts, refrained from behaving in the way which got him suspended. Showed an eagerness to continue posting here, even if he didn't exactly do that in the correct fashion. Ultimately, this guy is not another j7. He blew his top once, and is gracefully accepting his reinstatement and offering apologies (which we didn't even ask him to do). He now surely knows who not to mess with around here and can now hopefully just get on with trying to contribute something to the forums. I'll repeat that the mods here handled the situation perfectly in removing SM swiftly when he was obviously blowing a gasket. All this is is a member returning from a suspension, nothing more. |
