- He wasn't, then he was... maybe. Now Sony have made it official: Sam Mendes will be back behind the camera for Bond 24. The director, so assured on Skyfall but initially hesitant to commit to another 00-instalment, has thrilled the Bond faithful with the news that he'll be back for another slug of espionage.
"I am very pleased that by giving me the time I need to honour all my theatre commitments", Mendes said in a statement, "the producers have made it possible for me to direct Bond 24. I very much look forward to taking up the reins again, and to working with Daniel Craig, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli for a second time.”
Wilson and Broccoli added: "Following the extraordinary success of Skyfall, we're really excited to be working once again with Daniel Craig, Sam Mendes and John Logan.”
We've rearranged the Bond 24 press release, scanned it for anomalies, dyed it blue, held it to the sunlight, but still haven't spotted a single clue about whether or not Blofeld will be in it. What it does reveal is that we Brits will see it ahead of Felix Leiter's mob. The UK release is October 23, 2015, while it has a US release scheduled for November 6. |

| Cool, now we've got to wait three years in order to have a disgusting score by Thomas Newman. |

| As much as I would have liked the return of the two-year rotation, I'm glad they at least have this one all planned out that hopefully the quality will match with SF. Writing already commenced before SF's release, so I suppose we'll find out.
Here's hoping Roger Deakins reprises as DP. |

- Director’s Follow-Up to SKYFALL™, the Highest-Grossing Film in the Longest Running Film Franchise, to Arrive in Theaters on October 23, 2015 in the UK and November 6, 2015 in the US
CULVER CITY, Calif., July 11, 2013 – Producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, EON Productions; Gary Barber, Chairman & CEO, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer; Michael Lynton, CEO, Sony Entertainment, Inc, and Amy Pascal, Co-Chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment today announced that Daniel Craig will once again return as the legendary British secret agent in the 24th James Bond film and Sam Mendes will also return to direct the screenplay written by John Logan. Lynton and Pascal said, “It’s a privilege to work on the Bond films. EON, John Logan and Sam Mendes have come up with an extraordinary follow up to SKYFALL and we, along with our partners at MGM, can’t wait to share this new chapter with audiences all over the world.”

| Great news.
Though I hope this will be Daniel Craig's last outing.
Nothing against his portrayal of Bond, but he'll be 47 when this one comes around. Assuming the three year interval is used for Bond 25, that would make him 50 for that entry. I wouldn't go as far as saying that is Moore territory, but it is flirting with it, and Craig already did look older than his actual age. |

Am very happy to have Mendes back! Not only because Skyfall is one of the best looking Bond films, but also for the sense of continuity in the franchise that has been missing since the 80s. The article doesn't mention Thomas Newman, so there is a glimmer of hope... It's unlikely, but there is still a chance. - Salome wrote:

Especially if they cut his hair so short. If they kept it longer like in this pics, they might get away with it, but it's still two years away! http://www.mi6-hq.com/news/index.php?itemid=10988&t=mi6&s=news |

I'd be more than happy to see a fifty-year-old Craig as Bond. I mean, Stallone is still going strong in the action genre at almost seventy, so I'm sure that Craig could still be convincing at fifty as a tough and resourceful 007. We don't need a young man as Bond unless the film in question happens to be a BOND BEGINS-type affair, which this hypothetical fifth Craig outing wouldn't be. |

Well America has got drones so it always can threaten EON? ;) It's too late, they needed to send in the drones BEFORE Logan signed back on. It's probably a great release time, cuz it'll be what, 6 months after STAR WARS? For people who only go to movies occasionally, the spacing-out is excellent. |

Let's hope that in 2015 we'll once again have a good STAR WARS film and a good Bond film in the same year. |

The thing that works in Craig's favor is that his Bond is supposed to be a rough and tough, masculine guy. With Craig you kind of expect him to have those kind of features. As opposed to someone like Roger who stood out as the "pretty boy" Bond, so it was much more noticeable when he started to age. With that said.... I have the feeling Craig might move on after Bond 24 despite what we've heard about contracts and all that. Craig is on the way to being the second longest serving Bond actor. By the time Bond 24 hits theaters Craig will be nearing in on a decade as Bond. If he does Bond 25 (and if it comes out in 2018) it will put him equal with Roger Moore in terms of years. For some reason I can't imagine Craig sticking around for more than 10 years. Then again... since his non-Bond films haven't been doing too well, maybe he'll stick around for one more paycheck to bolster those retirement funds. |

| I'm happy about the news. It's good to shake things up from film to film with different filmmakers, but I'll take Mendes as pretty much a sure bet. I'd like to see Deakins return, and Newman. Though honestly, I could live without Deakins more than the others. I could live with a different visual style to make the film fresh and not feel like SKYFALL 2. But I want to keep Newman. |

That was always my gut feeling before SF came out, that Craig would probably cash his chips by the middle of this decade. However, I'm starting to think he will stick around til Bond 25 just for this reason: Mendes. It makes sense why all that news of Mendes being signed up for both 24 and 25 broke out awhile ago, likely as EON's way of keeping Craig interested. SF was the biggest film in nearly 50 years, so they'll do anything to keep this dream team together until the inevitable. |

| It's so NOT Deakins' thing, he made that clear to everybody. I'd be really surprised if he came back, even as a special favor to Mendes. And if the next one is the first of a 2 part thing, I can't imagine him wanting to hand-off halfway through either. |

Yup, think there was a quote from Craig around CR time that given the slight change to Bond's pre-MI6 back-story for the reboot (SAS instead of Royal Navy), it was safe to assume that the guy had been hit in the face quite a few times. |

| Speaking for myself, this makes me happy, although I would have welcomed a movie sooner (however unrealistic that may have been).
I do hope that we get a proper mission-focused, more straightforward outing this time though. |
