Unless Q Branch has invented teleportation, how does Bond arrive in Mexico City "literally a few minutes" after being debriefed in London? I vaguely remember hearing about Bond watching a pre-recorded video prepared by the recently dearly departed M...which might have been his last set of instructions from her to go to Mexico. |

I can see at least some of SPECTRE being set shortly after the events of Skyfall (it would explain why apparently no attempt has yet been made to repair/pull down the old MI6 building). But I'd then expect a '3 years later' caption to appear. |

| I must confess the scene with M chastising Bond 'what were you doing in Mexico City' is one I feel could be a prelude to the visit....along the lines of 'if you are asked what is your response to this unofficial investigation' rather than a post mortem of a dodgy operation, this tallies much better with the subsequent equipment supply by Q and the request 'make me disappear'. The only problem is that it seems a stretch to fit the M scene into a pts as described. |

Unless Q Branch has invented teleportation, how does Bond arrive in Mexico City "literally a few minutes" after being debriefed in London? Your question would be better aimed at Mendes than myself. After all, he's partially written the thing; he should know. Or maybe it's like QOS: White is shot at the end of CR, and wakes up in a car boot at the beginning of QOS. Yet during all that time, Mathis has not only been jailed, but now he's been moved to a beutifual island location to enjoy house arrest. Man, Bond sure did get over Vesper really quick with Strawberry Fields, eh? How long had Vesper been dead? A week? Quit y'er crying and move on. Sack up boy! We all lose someone close to us. |

That was one of the many moments of inconsistency in QoS. Bond is in remorse and drowning his sorrows on a plane one minute, then lightens up and sleeps with Fields the next, and then by the end of the film he is back to full remorse again, not able to barely even look at Camille, never mind kiss her. |

If I had Craig and Barbara to thank for just one thing, I would thank them for reminding me what the series used to be about: joy and fun and a good-time adventure. A world part-fantasy, action, humor and danger. A place for the fantastical to exist (Jaws, Nick Nack, Xenia, Odd Job, May Day, Necros) and for Bond to do just barely the plausible, but not the impossible. Thanks to Craig and Co, now THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN looks soooooooooooo much better, and I can't wait to up open up my 23 disc collectors blu-rays this November/December and enjoy all the really good Bond films; the ones that brought a smile to my face, or made my jaw drop in astonishment. Perphaps one day the series can find its way back to its true misison: to entertain. Because right now, it has just felt like one 4-film long pity part. |

| Gravy, I think you should go see THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. I think that's exactly what you want out of a Bond film. With a strong emphasis on style, unadulterated sex, womanizing without being ridiculed, and minimal pathos. |

| Great snippets of new footage. However, what seems like a slap in the face is the last sentence about the excitement you get from live explosions and stunts but it then ends on that obviously computer generated explosion in Mexico. |

| I'm not so sure it IS obvious. It hadn't even crossed my mind that it might be until someone (CJB, I think) mentioned it. |

| The Empire article features a small section that highlights all of the Craig villains and names them as SPECTRE agents. Even Silva, naming him as SPECTRE's IT expert.
Looks like EON is abandoning all of that Quantum bullshit.
Condolences, Prisoner Monkeys. I know it's one of your favorite films. |

I'm pretty sure that explosion is a practical effect by Chris Corbould, not CGI. - Control wrote:

Looks like EON is abandoning all of that Quantum bullshit. They could retcon Le Chiffre as a SPECTRE agent, since "Quantum" is never mentioned in CR. That business would have just been a front or spin-off by Greene that failed before it took off. |

I'm pretty sure that explosion is a practical effect by Chris Corbould, not CGI. It is real, according to the Empire feature. Plenty of photos to prove it. Mendes told Corbould, "This is a Bond film. We do it for real." - Makeshift Python wrote:

That's probably what they'll do. A bit half-assed, but oh well. It'll satisfy the fans who still give a fuck about continuity. Greene was listed as the head of SPECTRE's South American operation. Le Chiffre was listed as a banker for terrorists who was employed by SPECTRE, while White was listed as a "major player" in the SPECTRE organization. Purvis and Wade contributed to this section of the feature, by the way, so it's all coming from EON, rather than some numbnuts at Empire. Looks like they've re-written and tidied up the mess that Marc Foster & Co. made in 2008. I just hope they remember Helga and her significance within the franchise and Baker Street, Inc. |

| Fine by me. I just hated the name Quantum, especially with the title of the film factored in. TERRORIST ORGANIZATION OF COMFORT |

| The idea of them trying to retroactively make this into something bigger is kind of bullshit, if you ask me. EON should have mapped-out some kind of general, overarching story and tone from the beginning, especially since they seem to be so concerned with making audiences care more about Bond as a deeper character this time around. In that respect, they've been pretty short-sighted with this "rebooted" era of Bond, and it really shows.
That being said, they're probably trying to do the best with what they've been dealt. QOS was an unfortunate misfire that was (mainly) a product of circumstance (read: no script, writer's strike, rushed pre-production and post-production, Amy Winehouse's untimely exit). The narrative would be a lot further along had they successfully established something with that film. |
