"given creative differences, Warner Bros and Michelle MacLaren have decided not to move forward with plans to develop and direct Wonder Woman together".

Interesting, since this was something of a breakthrough to the big time for MacLaren, the creative limitations must have been pretty stifling for her to walk away like that.
Cate Shortland as a possible alternative?

If Hoyte van Hoytema's onboard and the setting's WW1 this might be interesting after all. Though this reporter is under the impression that the First World War was fought in the 1920s:
Quote :
the movie will be set both in Wonder Woman's homeland, and in the 1920s, during World War I.

As mistakes go, that is a terrible one.
But I agree on the increased interest if this is going to be a period piece.

I was stuck in a conference in the summer and went to see a midnight showing of Wonder Woman. To my great surprise it was Quite Good, the first half at least. The shot of Diana laying waste to the Krauts restored my faith in humanity.

I thought it was two-thirds of a good movie. The third act has many problems. It's also the only portion of the film that feels like it could have been pulled from a Zach Snyder movie, which isn't a compliment.

That no man's land scene is the absolute standout. I was astonished to read that Jenkins had to fight to keep it in.

Amused by this review of Wonder Woman. Will Tony Medley ever work again?
Quote :
OK for children
For some reason somebody at one time thought that women needed a superhero of their own, so they started creating some, like Superwoman and Batgirl. But the one that apparently caught everyone’s fancy was Wonder Woman. The result is this misguided attempt at entertainment.
I saw this with a woman who rated it 9/10, so I guess that there’s some sexism involved (duh!). This is a movie directed by a woman from a story and screenplay created by men but made solely to appeal to women who view a female superhero as their right. Apparently their unique ability to bear children (the future of intelligent life on this planet) isn’t enough for them to set them above men, which is pretty sad if you think about it, since that’s the most important thing in the world.
If it were up to me there would be no superhero movies regardless of their sex. These films are intellectual and entertainment diarrhea, filled with absurd incidents and fights, and this one is no different. There is absolutely no tension or dramatic uncertainty. As far as I’m concerned this is a total waste of 2 ½ hours.

Hard to disagree with his bowel-based assessment of the superhero movie phenomenon.
Having said that, Wonder Woman was probably the least shit one in a while.

The third act suffers from the same garbage that plagues the entire D.C. Snyder-verse.
But the first two acts are enjoyable and charming.

Thanks for sharing Ambler. The very reason I avoid superhero films, regardless of the sex of the superhero. It would be even worse to sit through 2 hours of drivel with feminazi overtones thrown in.

Odd, that was not my experience with this film. So much anger over a 76-year old comic book character getting its own movie.

Complaining about 'absurd incidents' in movies that quite clearly don't deal with 'the real world' as we know it is a bit odd, or is it just me?

I haven't seen the movie and don't care to either. And I'm certainly not angry about it not least because I don't care enough about it.
And BI, I do find that an unusual criticism, but perhaps given the focus to ground some superhero movies into the deep n gritty that they find it doesn't gel too well.

FWIW, I quite enjoyed Wonder Woman. It was more the review I found amusing.
