I agree about QOS boasted a solid score, and was a little sad to hear about Newman coming in. Never liked his music in his non-Bond efforts and unfortunately, it mostly transferred over to SF and SP as well, aside from a few excellent standout tracks. I do like Tennyson, Shanghai Drive, Breadcrumbs, Severine's Theme, the music in Macau, Donna Lucia, Hinx's motif and the Mexican Bond theme rendition.

Sorry, but when you start praising DAD and knocking CR in the same post, my brain automatically switches off.... sleepy

I'm sure CR already forces you to switch off your brain. Otherwise you'd see it for what it really is! tongue

At least in stills, the ropey CGI doesn't have to move.

JEFFREY WRIGHT TEASES HIS RETURN TO BOND 25

Ugh....if he's back, then I guess Craig is back. And I was so hoping we were going to get a fresh start with BOND 25.

Pierce Brosnan often shares photos from old films, including his Bond days and he hasn't returned as Bond. I think people have inferred too much from a simple, ambiguous post. Probably popped up in his 'Facebook memories' notifications and decided to share it again.

Likewise, I want a clean slate. Never understood the seemingly universal acclaim for Wright's version of Leiter. As far as I'm concerned, we haven't bettered Jack Lord's portrayal, though I do have a soft spot for the David Hedison and Cec Linder renditions.

Wright's Leiter was sleep-inducing. None of that good-natured charm of the literary Felix. Even the middle-aged insurance broker they found for DAF was more fun.

About time they stayed true to Fleming and got a Texan for the role. They seem like a lively bunch.

Curiously, the closest on screen persona to the Leiter of the books is probably Joe Don Baker's Jack Wade.

Never occurred to me, but you're right. Shave off 20 years of age and he'd have made a solid Felix.

The closest to Fleming's description was Rik Van Nutter in Thunderball.

At least Hedison and Wright got to play Leiter twice ... never understood why the actor playing him was hardly ever the same from one Bond flick to the next back in the day.

Not much seems to be known about him. I find it odd that he had no film roles from 1967 to 1977, then dropped out of film altogether in 1979. To me, he epitomized 60's cool chic. THUNDERBALL still looks classy today; I don't think it's aged much at all; everyone's game was on point in that movie and it stands the test of time. Odd, though, that he never really went to do much of anything else.

A lot of arbitrary decisions got made back in the 60's and 70's; but a lot of films were like that. Today I think there's much more planning that goes into these "tentpoles" and "franchises" and "universes". A lot more is at stake and the movie-goer is much more in tune with showbiz and invested in all aspects of the film-making process; from pre-production all the way to the premiere.

Jack Lord was pretty good, and I liked Bernie Casey in NSNA; they'd be my Top 3 Leiters, with Jeffrey Wright at the very bottom.

Rik Van Nutter seems a little off to me at times. Not nearly as consistent as the other Leiters, and perhaps a little less personality than some of the others.

BI wrote:

Supposedly Jack Lord wanted an expanded role in subsequent Bond pictures so producers decided to get another actor to play the part instead. Perhaps there was some backlash against Cec Linder being too old so he wasn't asked back for TB? Perhaps whatever prevented Rik Van Nutter from working between '67 and '77, as Grav mentioned, meant he wasn't a contender for DAF? And with LALD featuring a new Bond, perhaps this is why they recast Felix as well. And similarly, with TLD. I think we know why John 'World. War. Three.' Terry didn't return...

All speculation of course. Except for Jack Lord.

I agree, never found him to be particularly engaging.

Didn't help that he looked like a bit of a goofball in his maiden scene:

Trump's national security advisers are asking the John Terry Question on a daily basis, so his influence on popular culture endures regardless.

Can't really blame him.

In other news, 5 studios have pitched to release Bond 25.

Good to see this moving along, I guess. MI6's story mentions Sony pitching on a recreated Dr No set.

Should hit the screens around 2022 then.

54 year old Daniel Craig will star in Quantum of Constipation.

Studios pitching for the distribution rights, the mayor of Dubrovnik in Croatia announcing that the Bond people had approached him with a view to filming part of Bond 25 in the city ... the wheels are definitely turning again, and hurrah for that.

Hurrah only if they're moving on from Craig. I'd otherwise rather not have another Bond film until 2020.

In other news, Dave Bautista wants Hinx's return, stating it's dependent on whether Craig commits to a fifth outing.

Ugh, no. Let's leave the recurring hulk trope in the goofy 70's, with all due respect to the late, incomparable Mr Kiel.

I liked Hinx, so I wouldn't mind if he was to return. Perhaps they can make (more) use of his deadly thumbs. However, I'd rather a new Bond and if that means no Hinx then so be it.

One of the least memorable, or interesting, henchmen (or henchwomen) ever.

My Top 5 favorites: May Day, Necros, Xenia, Fatima Blush, Baron Samedi,

Bottom Five Least favorites: the entire cast of henchmen from LTK....and, yeah, everyone from LTK.

Nothing ever needs to be said about SPECTRE again. Nothing good to be gained by addressing it, or creating a direct sequel to it. Don't explain it...don't try to justify it...just move on from  SPECTRE as if it never occurred. Let 007 and Madeline drive off into the sunset and take Hinx with them.

Time to bring in new creative blood in front of and behind the camera. Time for Babs to retire.

It's true Hinx doesn't come close to scraping Oddjob, Red Grant, Xenia Onatopp, Jaws or May Day (my personal favourite) out of the top spots, but he certainly was a threat to Bond in the context of the film (however silly it was), so credit where credit is due.

Much as I'd love to think this could happen I fear it, by itself, would exceed my six impossible things to believe before breakfast!

Having not seen his Sherlock work, Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool or Lucky Number Slevin, I'm not sure if it's a viable or tragic nominee. However, I've watched Smash but didn't think to highly of it. I'd rather not investigate how many episodes he directed of that for fear of continued disappointment.

Joe Wright or Edgar Wright would be the wright choice. Or Susanne Bier - curiously not approached (or as witnessed by journalists) by our feminist producer.

Syncopy, Christopher Nolan's production company, has been attached to the Bond 25 IMDB page. Given that this could have been edited in by a(n) (optimistic, ill-informed) Bond fan, this may not be a reliable source. And I hope it isn't true.

Because what I see frightens me.
