Gadgets Empty
PostSubject: Gadgets   Gadgets EmptyTue Sep 10, 2019 3:48 am

I was thinking about gadgets in the new Bonds. They’ve been pretty conservative with them in an effort to seem more modern, realistic, and less hokey for today’s more sophisticated audience. So I tried to think of some cool gadgets that could push the boundaries a bit for some old-school feel, but still be acceptable to a modern audience. I had the idea that it would be cool if he had a device or an app on his phone that allowed him to create deepfakes instantly in order to bypass security and manipulate people and such. Altering one’s appearance and voice though technological means has been used countless times in all kinds of spy movies, including the voice changer in DAF. The difference is that this technology actually exists now and is not some wild dream from Q branch. It would look cool and cutting edge, not silly and fantastical.

Has anyone else ever had ideas for gadgets that they think would be cool? Or, have there been any that made you roll your eyes and groan a bit? I know the morse code signaler in LALD gets some heat.

They were taken to excesses in DAD with that stupid invisible car. At that rate, Bond would have been using nano-technology in 2006 and time-travel in No Time To Die.

I do wish they'd bring some gadgets back though..just within the realm of possible and not sci-fi

I think the trouble is that real life has caught up with the films. Most of us now carry the sort of computing power that would've made Alan Turing pass out around in our pockets on a daily basis.

Haha "today's more sophisticated audience" and yet they made CR, QOS and SP. Hmm...

There's no reason they can't do disguised homers, concealed weapons and anything with a smartphone beyond using apps. Lock picks, rappelling devices and laser cutters have always been good. They're just getting lazy, as seen with the more pressing issues in the films I mentioned above.
