How so? I found the majority of Arnold's CR tracks to be dull, generic, melody-devoid noise, in fact I'd actually rank it as the weakest Bond score to date, with barely three or four tracks at best being listenable.

Six years ago definitely, couldn't have thought of many better for it. But they've gone backwards with the last two albums, so now I'm not so sure.
Still, I hope that the Adele "leak" isn't true. Good voice, granted, but I can hear the song already, yet another lazy and pointless retread of the "Bassey blueprint" which killed the Bond songs to death in the 90s. Can only imagine it being by-the-numbers pastiche a la Garbage. But still, Adele = $$$$$$$$$$$ for the producers, so I'd guess the deal's as good as sealed, especially now that every coffee table bought in the UK seems to come with a copy of "19" or "21" attached to it.

Ian Brown would be an interesting choice.

I watched her interview with Jonathan Ross and it appears she says "Nah" or "No" when he hums the James Bond theme. Is that just her normal way of talking or deflecting a question (like the way Q used to always say "Right" at the beginning of every sentence") or was that a firm "No" that she's not doing the theme song? Or am I reading too much into this?

Well, given that they've been touring "Screamadelica" for the past few months (amazing show, BTW), I'm hoping it's put them back in touch with their former greatness.

I can only pray that will be the case. For so very long, they looked like being the one band I could count on not to cop out and start going over old moves like so many of their peers, but their last two albums are to me almost the complete opposite of the two which came before; Riot City Blues took them back to their '94 era, while Beautiful Future was in large parts just a compendium of of stuff they've done better before on various preceding albums, a shame as I thought their "pop album" was buried in there somewhere on a couple of the tracks, which at least would have been better than the album as released.
Anyway, my 18-month long choice for the Bond 23 song just got multiplied by a thousand....
A beautiful Welsh/Greek combination, giving us both the Britishness Bond songs desperately need while still having a touch of the exotic, and an artist whose last album was hook-laden to pretty staggering proportions to the point where it still sounds fantastic 18 months later. Can do dramatic in her sleep, can write, and is just as potent cracking out a sky-clearing ballad as she is at banging out a diamond of a pop/rock song. Can't wait to hear the undoubtedly epic second half of the teaser above, and I just hope Mike G Wilson is listening as well. And Diamonds belong in Bond, Tiffanywint will tell you that. ;)

I won't defend the last two Primal Scream albums, indeed I don't even think XTRMNTR or EVIL HEAT are anything particularly special, but any band that makes SCREAMADELICA (yeah, I know it was a long time ago, but still....) and employs Mani gets cut a heck of a lot of slack by me. But as far as their albums are concerned I only really like SCREAMADELICA, GIVE OUT BUT DON''T GIVE UP and about half of XTRMNTR.
If you're any kind of Scream fan - and it looks to me as though you are - then I can't recommend their recent SCREAMADELICA live CD + DVD highly enough. The visuals are mindblowing (especially on Blu-ray) and the music incredible (you can really hear Mani's bass) - it's proof of what a terrific live band they can be. Even better, though, there's an absolutely wonderful feature-length documentary on the making of SCREAMADELICA featuring new interviews with Andy Weatherall (who comes across as a very intelligent and funny guy, BTW), Dr Alex Patterson, former bassist Henry Olsen (a delightful, erudite chap who comes across more like a professor of music than a former member of the legendarily debauched Primal Scream), Denise Johnson and others. It really makes one respect the tremendous amount of expertise and hard work that went into this album.

Here's an idea: Why not have more than one A-list artist on the soundtrack? On top of that, why not have, in addition to the opening credits title sequence, a closing credits title sequence?
You could have Adele open the film with the title/theme song (hopefully sung over Daniel Kleinmann's title sequence) and then have MUSE close the film out with a rock song and a brand new title sequence that encorporates the closing credits. A lot of films have been using tricks lately to keep the audiences in the theater just a bit longer so I think this could work and also be practical (like having a scene from a sequel or related movie show up at the very end of the film after the credits have closed; maybe EON could set up the next film with a brief clip from it put into this film that'll get viewers curious....and maybe we could get the title of BOND-24 attached to the end of BOND-23????)

If I was scoring the movie and writing the songs, then yeah, that's what I'd do. Kind of like THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS - with a main theme for the title sequence, and a love theme for the end credits.

Evanescence is back. I hadn't heard from them in a while and figured they had broken up. They could be a potentially interesting choice for title/theme song.
I think BRING ME TO LIFE would have been a much better fit for CASINO ROYALE than You Know My Name (though it was a good song also).

Arcade Fire. In my best muso impression: "One of the few bands today with the melodic facility necessary for a good Bond song."
Muse can fuck off.

They need a Hit and a little fun, so why not Lady GaGa, she knows how to write a Hit.

They should go back to the days when the singer didn't write the song - the composer and lyricist did.
Gaga is a decent singer, but a dull songwriter.

The tuning dial on my DAB radio's gone, and the DAB side of it is permanently stuck on Xfm, which I guess is the British equivalent of something like K-Rock. Yes, I have to wade through lots of rubbish (i.e. Kasabian and Two Door Cinema Club), but I've got much more attuned to the current pop scene. Thanks to this, one of the artists of 2011 that has caught my attention the most is Lana Del Ray.
She's very cute, but there's something about her voice that's strikes a chord. Some critic has called her a "gangster Nancy Sinatra", but I think she's much more.

Assuming they get a decent enough composer and/or lyricist.

How about Mariqueen Maandig/How To Destroy Angels?
Someone posted the title sequence for THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO over at CBn; I was mostly after the full version of the Trent Renzor/Karen O cover of Immigrant Song. But I was just Googling and Wiki-ing around and ended up finding How To Destroy Angels, one of Renzor's side projects. Naturally, YouTube was the next step, and I found this great cover of Bryan Ferry's Is Your Love Strong Enough? (that's a link), which plays over the end credits of DRAGON TATTOO:
