As I've only had this dishonour once, maybe twice, I'll press on for now. Maybe the hat-trick will seal the deal and I'll end it promptly.

No:
when I start quoting you, you should feel honoured.
It's like being mentioned in an article written by Walter Cronkite.

Before we were all distracted by j7 amd his mammary fixation, did anyone like this idea?
Prisoner Monkeys wrote:
Kind of, but more as a friendly battle of wills than anything else. I'm seeing it as the initial meeting between Bond and the villain, who builds and runs Le Mans Prototypes, and is unveiling his latest challenger at somewhere like Silverstone (one of the finest racing circuits in the world). He and Bond have a mutual appreciation for engineering, and he admits that he was always a racer first; the construction of hybrids and the use of alternative fuels is just a passing distraction. He challenges Bond to a race, away from the cameras and the public. I'm seeing Bond in the Lotus 49, one of the most important racing cars ever built, and the pinnacle of British engineering; for the villain, the Ferrari 312B, one of the most successful cars of its time.
Bond doesn't have to get anything from winning the race. In fact, he doesn't have to win at all. They compete for the sake of competing, and develop a mututal respect for one another, racing cars that required skill rather than computers to drive. It would also set up an interesting dynamic between Bond and the villain - when was the last time we had a villain who genuinely liked and/or respected Bond as a person?

My only concern is that such a scene would be dropped because the audience would find it slow, or not explodey enough. Or maybe they wouldn't appreciate the cars and the circuit without lengthy explanation as to why they're so important. The cars in particular were very difficult to drive - the car itself was very light, and all of the weight was over the rear wheels. There was also virtually no protection for the drivers in the event of an accident.
The nuances of the circuit would be even harder to communicate. Silverstone is one of the finest racing venues in the world (Interlagos in Brazil is my personal favourite, but Silverstone is a close second). Some of the corners, particularly Abbey and the Farm (the first two), Copse (the lone right-hander about halfway through the lap) and the Maggotts-Becketts-Chapel complex (the twisty bit after Copse) are incredibly difficult, even in today's cars, but I think all of that might be difficult to show audiences. EON might as well film the scenes in Bahrain, Abu Dhabi or Valencia (considered three of the worst circuits on the calendar) for all the difference it would make.

Heheh, I suggest Bond takes part in a mock Formula 1 race, and two weeks later, there's talk of hosting a race in London:
The route is pretty much impossible, mostly because it involves going through Admiralty Arch, but I could see this appearing in a Bond film.

That proposed circuit's like one on an old PS1 game I had. Probably about as realistic too.

The only genuine problem with the circuit is Admiralty Arch. It's simply too narrow for a speeding car, and an accident there would likely block the circuit and force the race to be stopped. Otherwise, it seems more interested in going past as many landmarks as possible, rather than actually being a good circuit.
But if EON wanted a good car chase through London, then I think it's a good start.

I wonder ... could EON go back to ripping stuff from headlines?
There's been some interesting stuff going on in China of late. For one, there was the Neil Heywood case, where the murder of a British businessman ruined the career of one of the country's rising political stars. And now, just a short time before their once-in-a-decade transition of power, the man put forward as the next leader of the country has completely disappeared.
There were also a string of murders of Iranian nuclear scientists a while ago, with assassins on motorbikes planting magnetic bombs on their cars, which they then blew up. And at the risk of sounding tasteless or even a little callous, there was a mass murder in the French Alps last week of an Iraqi-born engineer and his family. The press speculated that there had been a family dispute, but the man's brother denies it and claims his brother was working on something semi-secretive and that a foreign government had him executed.
I could see parts of all that being used to assemble a tidy little thriller.

Okay, new idea: given Craig-Bond's frequent use of heavy constructuon equipment, how about a modern-day siege using bulldozers and cement mixers and graders and cranes in the place of battering rams and trebuchets?

An underground portion of Canal Saint-Martin in Paris. Certainly more arresting than anything we saw in AVTAK.

That'd be suited for some kind of boat chase. Fail that, a damn good location for Spiral.

Yes, I say it's time for Bond to revisit Paris. The way London was featured in Skyfall, I'm sure Paris can be as well-used in a Bond film. No jumping off Eiffel Tower stunts, but perhaps a foot chase in Montmartre, a fight in La Defense, and some espionage in the Bois du Boulogne.
Other than Paris, I'd also want to see Bond visit any of these continental cities: Barcelona, Lisbon, Copenhagen, Kiev, and Valletta (Malta).

I do like that, but my concern is that between the Siena safehouse in QOS and the MI6 bunker and the Underground in SF, we've now had some fairly substantial underground scenes in recent films.
