Cheers, Shark, 'appreciates' is the right word.

Delingpole makes some fair points about Boyle, particularly that bit about him 'using comedy like a broken bottle in a rough pub.'

Someone's got to stand up to the unions. My mum works in education (approaching retirement), and she knows how bullying and petty the NUT can be. As I always say, they're just a bunch of small-time gangsters running protection rackets that conveniently operate under the eyes of the law.

Clarkson is a practiced and deliberate wind-up merchant. Anyone who takes him seriously is a fool to themselves.

Ed Millipede's providing the usual hilarity. "I don't know anything, but I'm outraged."

He's the perfect Labour leader. Humourless, earnest and dim as a door knob.

Clarkson apologies.

Quote :
Jeremy Clarkson has apologised after making comments that he would execute all public sector workers involved in strikes on Wednesday.

"If BBC & I have caused any offence, I'm quite happy to apologise alongside them," the Top Gear presenter said.

Interviewed on BBC’s ‘The One Show’, Clarkson said he would have those who walked out across the UK shot. “I would take them [strikers] outside and execute them in front of their families,” he admitted.

“I mean how dare they go on strike when they have these gilt-edged pensions that are going to be guaranteed, while the rest of us have to work for a living”.

In response to the outburst trade union Unison called for Clarkson's dismissal and said that they are taking “urgent” legal advice.

“Clarkson’s comments on the One Show were totally outrageous, and they cannot be tolerated,” said Unison general secretary Dave Prentis. “Public sector workers and their families are utterly shocked by Jeremy Clarkson’s revolting comments. An apology is not enough- we are calling on the BBC to sack Jeremy Clarkson immediately. Such disgusting comments have no place on our TV screens."

“Jeremy Clarkson clearly needs a reminder of just who he is talking about when he calls for public sector workers to be shot in front of their families," he added. "Whilst he is driving round in fast cars for a living, public sector workers are busy holding our society together - they save others lives on a daily basis, they care for the sick, the vulnerable, the elderly".

Clarkson went on to comment on people committing suicide on railways, stating: “You just think, why have we stopped because we've hit somebody? What's the point of stopping? It won't make them better.”

Presenter Matt Baker made an on-air apology for the remark, saying “we are seriously sorry”. A BBC spokesman later declined to add to the issue. The corporation confirmed that they have had 4,769 complaints on Clarkson's comments.

The BBC management can't sack Clarkson, much though they'd like to. Top Gear is their biggest brand.

There were 600 complaints to the Beeb recently about Len Goodman calling fellow Strictly judge Craig Revel-Horwood 'a silly little sod'.

It's 2011 ... if you really think 'sod' still counts as offensive language, maybe you just shouldn't watch television.

The creed of the modern authoritarian. Picking what can and can't be tolerated.

And, of course, rather than debate someone...

Quote :
We are seeking urgent legal advice about what further action we can take against him and the BBC, and whether or not his comments should be referred to the police.

I sure you are against protectionism by government, so I'm at at a loss to understand why do you find it acceptable behaviour from a company?
Seve, I now realize you are at a severe disadvantage when discussing anything related to business. The whole point of any business is to max out market share, and that involves attempting to wipe out your competition. There is no other way to run a business. Do yourself a favour, do not attempt to start a business. With your attitude it will collapse.

how is the free market and smaller government going to solve that one?
what you don't take into account is that in a healthy vibrant market economy people are a resource. They are both consumers and producers. The more the merrier. In a socialist economy, people are a burden - just more mouths that the inefficient oppressive machinery of government must take care of. May as well kill them.

It should be patently obvious to anyone who is familiar with his style or has seen one of his programmes – ie: everyone in the world – that Clarkson didn't mean it. For one thing, being an informed fellow he would be perfectly aware that the government simply hasn't the money to spend on bullets right now. For another, he must know that it's perfectly possible that among all the diversity outreach consultants, renewable energy/recycling advisers and union reps who spent their day on the picket lines/early Christmas shopping in Bluewater yesterday at least a handful might actually have jobs which make some tiny contribution to the nation's well being – so killing at least those ones would be counterproductive
.
"so killing at least those ones would be counterproductive" Might be better they all dissapear though. We could always hire back the "diversity outreach consultants" that we actually "need".❤

I am encouraged that the state broadcaster might employ someone so provocative though, but still discouraged by the notion that publicly-funded state broadcasters continue to exist in the digital age.

Too right. The privatisation of the ABC in Australia is long overdue.

Perhaps if the programs of Andrew Bolt and Alan Jones were to be funded by taxpayers, leftists would realise why conservative-leaning people don't like their money going to pinko circle-jerks like The Drum and Q&A. :)

Everytime soemthing gets said on tv some group disagrees with we get the labeling lefties or rightwing nuts. JUST BE GLAD YOU LIVE IN A WORLD WERE FREEDOM OF SPEECH IS POSSIBLE.
If all people only said what you think is right then it would be an awefull place to live. Anybody disagreeing with me annoys me of course but I am just glad they are there, simply because I annoy them too in my opinion. Which is my right to do too.

You could never have a right-wing public broadcaster, because rightwingers like to bitch about tax-money funding a state broadcaster, which wouldn't fly too well with said state-broadcaster. " I demand funding for all our programming be cut off right now" 👅

No, the state broadcaster will always attract liberals, flocking like lemmings, to solve all the world's problems on the public dime.

Tiff is correct. I have no problem with lefties voicing their opinions - I encourage them to make their colourful views known to everyone considering voting for their side of politics - but I have a problem with my tax money paying for a bunch of talentless nongs to sit at a table blabbering on about how the sun shines out of their arseholes. We don't need state-run broadcasters in this day and age. If the ABC believes that their programs are of a high quality, let them survive on a commercial basis.

Why does the left have to be so bloody humourless? :) I mean, I'll fight to the death to protect Rave's honour, but I don't think Jezza meant it for a moment.

Clearly not. He hardly works for a living, after all.

Don't really get it. Well, if he had shot a few protesters that would be reason to complain. But to just blab away as the twit he is after all - that's hardly a crime, is it? Give the man a brake, he is vile arse, can't expect him to go against his nature.

I've now heard that Clarkson at first said that he actually supported the strikers, but then said that seeing as it was the BBC and that they were supposed to be impartial ... then the crack about shooting them followed.
