Still, I'm not at all concerned about Bale's comments. Connery said he was done with Bond....and came back twice. Bruce Willis said after DIE HARD 2 that the only way he'd star in another DIE HARD film was if the producers wheeled out his cold, dead body in front of the camera ( DIE HARD 5 production has already begun).

Why would you want them back, is my question? I'd rather have a complete trilogy, and then start completely fresh for the next set than have one actor go on ad nauseum. Connery is a good example - his "comeback" performances are utterly lazy and unmotivated.

Sad news from the city of Gotham. Both Warner Bros. and the Screen Actors Guild have confirmed that an unidentified male extra died of natural causes while working as a background actor last month on the New York City set of “The Dark Knight Rises.”

Nice poster. Reminds me of the Gene Colan/Don Newton artwork from the mid 80's DC comics. Looks more and more likely this will follow the Knightfall story.

I don't know about strictly following it, willy. Maybe influenced by it, but not a blow-for-blow adaptation. Based on the teaser trailer, I suspect Gordon might be the one to get his back broken, not Batman. The end result would be the same; Bane breaks the bat. The difference is that he does it psychologically, not physically.

From what we've read from Nolan though, he states this film is all about the pyhsical threat to Batman, whereas the first 2 films were about the psychological threats.

Nolan has said the reason why Bane was chosen as the villain was because he wanted to "[test] Batman both physically as well as mentally". So Nolan evidently hasn't given up on the psychological elements, and it's not like these are absent from the comics, either. During the Knightfall story arc, Bane wore Batman down by staging a mass break-out from Arkham, forcing Batman to round up most of Gotham's villains. Bane then picked his moment, and attacked Batman when Batman was spent. He did it because, while he was confident in his fighting abilities, he also knew that there was a chance Batman could beat him. So he stacked the odds in his favour with the break-out.

The same logic applies here. Bane apparently wants to destroy Gotham once and for all, and one of the popular fan theories is that he is a disciple of Ra's al Ghul. If this is the case, he would know all about Batman and Bruce Wayne. He would know that in order to destroy Gotham, he has to destroy Batman. As Ra's said in BEGINS, "If you make yourself more than just a man, if you devote yourself to an ideal, you become something else entirely.". But if Bane can demonstrate that Batman is simply a man and break his spirit, he can break Gotham's spirit. And since Bane is a planner, I'm willing to bet that part of his grand scheme for razing Gotham is identifying Batman's allies - the few people who still believe in him - and destroying them, stacking the odds in his favour. Which is why I think he will break Gordon's back to break Batman's will.
