They stated that the Gershwin music was conducted by Andre Previn, but it doesn't sound at all like the Previn/Gershwin album that I own.
I guess it's more like classical for dummies.

Lotte Lenya singing "Havana Song" (3:25) from THE RISE AND FALL OF THE CITY CALLED MAHAGONNY and "Surabaya Johnny" (5:20) from HAPPY END, introduced by Aaron Copeland. This is from 1965 and Lenya's much older here than the other recordings on Youtube. I prefer her voice here, less shrill and nasal but her performance has more conviction than ever. This is the best rendition of "Surabaya Johnny" I've ever seen. Highly moving.
F*ck me was she beautiful. I can't believe I'm calling Rosa Klebb a MILF, but God damn. I would.

I heard an amazing tenor at Last Night of the Proms on Saturday night. Joseph Calleja, from Malta (via Yorkshire ;) ). Such a fantastic talent. No forced notes, everything - no matter how high - so graceful and effortless. I haven't heard such a perfect, unforced, flawless tenor since Jussi Bjorling, and he must have been dead the last 50 years or so.

He's released a CD of Mario Lanza favourites that is definitely going in my basket come payday.

I love Steve Reich. Sequenced electronic music owes so much to the guy.

The greatest American symphony ever (re) written. Henry Brant was Alex North's orchestrator from the early 60s to the end, and arguably one of the greatest orchestrators ever.

This thread is useless without Mozart.

I love classical music, and going through this thread I made a new acquaintance: Hovhaness. Found more great recordings, such as this:

For however much I love music of all sorts I have never really been able to grow my classical music appreciation beyond Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven. The closest I ever came as when I took a music survey class in school, and realized I was quite fond of "program music."
