| So the Trek reboot takes the time and trouble to send the new versions of the Enterprise crew off on an alternate timeline to that of Shatner, Nimoy etc ... only for the villain in the 2nd movie to be Khan again?
Huh? |

| I hesitate to just say that Abrams and Co. aren't taking Trek seriously. Trek should be taken with a grain of salt, but it should at least be given some creative effort.
They're just making another dumbass tentpole to make cash. It just happens to have characters with Trek names in it.
But I'm eager to the result. I'm thinking it has a good chance of being better than NUTREK, partly because we don't have to go through the utterly nonsensical plot, and by virtue of just how bad NUTREK was on it's own.
I'm honestly more put off by the casting than by the use of the character. |

| I kinda wish one of the TNG films brought in Q. It would have been so far out there but also enough to really differentiate TNG films from the TOS films. Just so I can watch John de Lancie entertain on the big screen. |

| I think Q was rumoured for Nemesis at some point (or Star Trek X as it was) amongst others. Right up there with Quark cameoing in Insurrection. |

| Yeah the writers always wanted to include Quark in a scene even in FIRST CONTACT cause he was such a breakout character when DS9 first started. |

| Cumbers knows squat about Trek but then who does nowadays. Via that reliable newshound that is MTV... - Quote :
- In a new interview with MTV News, Star Trek XII star Benedict Cumberbatch revealed that he has made no effort to learn about the history of the Trek franchise.
"What do they look like?" Cumberbatch asked when questioned about Klingons.
Rumored to play the new Khan, when questioned about this, he went on to deny knowing what the SS Botany Bay, Khan's ship, is.
"I think it's best to, like a lot of acting you do, you have to start from a knowledge base of zero in order to have every experience that you're portraying again and again and again feel like fresh," Cumberbatch explained. "So I purposefully made no attempt to learn anything about anything." |

I find it difficult to believe he took, or was allowed, the same approach with Holmes. |

Rejoice though, Alice Eve

| I'm beginning to wonder if the real connection to the original STAR TREK II is not in the plot, but in the PR spin control. What Harve Bennett called 'throwing tinsel into the radar sets,' I believe.
Did you see that Cumberwhoosis called the movie, 'blindingly brilliant' ... ? Geez, and they don't even have a rough cut and he knows this.

| Judging from the leaked pics of him wearing what looks like a cadet outfit, maybe we're getting STAR TREK 2: THE WRATH OF FINNEGAN. |

| Rather Finnegan than Garth. Though I guess for Cumberbatch Garth is more likely.
Quite liked Izar in the...
Wait a tick, perhaps Gary Seven...no...needs a pussy.

| Well...thank God. Kind of.
Man, I wouldn't want to be Gary Lockwood. Well, like he cares. |

| Glad to hear that, 'cause I couldn't for the life of me figure out why they'd go to the trouble of setting up the alternate timeline in the reboot - and then have Khan be the villain in the sequel again. |

| Almost a shame Gary Mitchell won't last long in this timeline. I'd always wish that Lockwood had stayed around for a few episodes in TOS. The Kirk/Mitchell friendship sounded quite solid (but for this film, we'd be lucky).

| I'll admit that the news of the villain being Mitchell gives me a little hope. We never had Trek film with a godlike antagonist before, at least that will be refreshing after the Shinzon and Nero. I guess. |

TFF. I'm still not believing it. There has been a lot of the 'throwing tin foil into the radar' on this movie in terms of false leads and spin, Harve Bennett should be happy that his strategy on mixing up fans about TWOK's ending is at least being sequelized, though unfortunately for Abrams, he has no top-of-his-game Nick Meyer to make things work memorably. If they were going to do KHAN, they'd HAVE to get the hispanic politician from WEEDS (who I've heard is now in real demand as an actor.) The guy struts like Montalban, articulates like Montalban ... |

If they're really brutal, they'll strand him in a theater playing TREK 09 on infinite loop. |
