What is "SKYFALL?"

This is a thread to postulate about the meaning of Bond 23's title.

News from Twitter is that SKYFALL will be called 007 OPERAÇAO SKYFAL in Brazil (007: OPERATION SKYFALL). Reminds me of "OPERATION THUNDERBALL", in that it's likely a codename.

The question is, what's it a codename for?

I wonder if it means a fall from grace...M?

At least it's not about another satellite in the sky...

for what it's worth Tom Clancy's Sum of All Fears has a SKYFALL as a Major Operation Plan being something to do with nuclear warfare/incidents.

SkyFall will be what happens before these producers actually make a great Bond film. They'll have gotten away with making about 28 more sh*t ones by the year 2108, and then the SKY will FALL. Right on Babs' head, with any luck.

My initial response in this thread was going to be something similar to what you said; namely that the sky would fall in early November, when the box office returns start to come in and the studio sees how poorly Bond 23 is doing because of Barbara using James Bond like a common whore to advance her political agenda. But Prisoner Monkeyballs would expect me to say such a thing so I decided not to. I didn't want to give him the satisfaction.

I think some countries just call all Bond films "Operation ..." or "007 and ..." In this instance though, it might make sense that Bond will actually be on an operation codenamed Skyfall.

I'm in the US$50m+ opening weekend club, assuming it's a regular opening weekend and not something that starts mid-week in a limited release like MI4.

QoS opened to 67.2m....but that had the goodwill rollover from Casino Royale which was squandered somewhat on QoS...but you never know, a good 50th Anniversary marketing campaign might send it considerably higher.

Stranger things have happened...no one anticipated that MI4 would do so well, and Tom Cruise was far more maligned across the board than Daniel Craig is for Bond...

I think "Operation Skyfall" will be an off-the-books operation run by MI6. It was the kind of operation that made careers, but it was also highly illegal, and so it was buried. M, Albert Finney, Helen McCrory and at least some of the eight dead agents were all a part of it. Javier Bardem is also connected, either as one of the original conspirators or as somebody whose role came about as a result of the operation. If ever the details of Operation Skyfall came to light, those involved would be ruined. A major subplot throughout the film would involve those who were a part of Skyfall trying to keep it secret, even if that will only make the situation worse.

No, the low-point of the series was when Barbara dressed Bond up to look like a busted-ass hooker working the corner of Sunset and Vine for her feministing campaign last year.
