Yes. Should be a powerful scene. I have no problems with it.

Yes. Glad to see the end of the wretched old bint. I'd happily volunteer for the role of executioner.

someone close to her who in a fit of rage, shot M.
I want to say Eve, a trained sniper and naturally guilty!
She's the obvious mole and the traitor in MI6.
Isn't Eve rumored to be Moneypenny? If so, that would make for some pretty awkward days at work.

So will Brosnan show up at the end of SKYFALL, in the shower, tell us that the last 3 films were all a bad dream in our head, and he'll be Bond again in 2014?,

no, Brosnan will show up at the end and tell Bond that he is Bond's long dead father and M was actually his Mother all this time

M is considerably more fleshed out, and it appears that large parts of SKYFALL are intended to de-mythologise her character. So even if her body winds up on a rubbish dump, it will at least be explained how and why it was necessary for her to end up there.
There is hope then. We may be spared the melodrama. Might be able to put the vomit bag aside.
However, I do know, that whatever they do, I won't care. I am not invested in this Bond/M relationship at all, other than I don't like it. Best that she's gone, dead or alive IMO, and get on with the series, and goodbye to their trust issues. If her death gets too saccharine though, I will be forced to utilize my barf-bag. I'm bringing it anyway, just in case, because you never know what might be served up elsewhere, by way of pithy dialogue etc.
With nu-Bond, best to be prepared. It's not the same as the old Bond. Pete Townshend didn't write this song.
===I still can't figure out if Eve will turn out to be MP. She's almost too good looking to be MP, but its still possible, but I honestly can't figure this one out. She may just be Agent Eve but she could turn out to be MP too.
However I don't think Bond will kill M. They love each other too much . That's why their trust issues are so intense. We want to trust our mommies and mommies want to trust their sons. Heartbreaking Mr. Kidd.
I think what might happen, is that Bond might be forced to let her die, like not rescue her, for the sake of the mission of course. Then he will be all emotional and bent out of sorts, and again not be interested in having a girl to boink at the end. As usual. Sigh. Cue the Bond theme and the gun barrel with both elements again in their new usual places.

Substitute Bambi's Mother with M and Bambi with Bond and there you have it

I was talking about this scene about a page ago. So good. Mendes seems to love the downpours.

My biggest reservation is that its yet ANOTHER woman Craig's lost in a shortlength of time (and he didn't consumate with Camille), chuck in any Bond backround story we might be getting with the "ancestoral home!" stuff (lost parents, orphaned) AND the way Craig and Dench's relationship has played twice before.... and we could be in for a whee bit too much melodramatic angst for my taste in Bond.
When stated that way....then yes, I would have reservations. I'm wondering exactly how Bond's allegedly dead parents figure into M's life (and possible death). As I said a few times before around here, I think SKYFALL will either be the greatest Bond film since TLD...or it will collapse under the weight of its own melodrama. I don't see much middle ground here. This will be the most brilliant Bond film, with the highest pedigree of writing, directing, and acting we've ever seen in the series, or it will be crushed by the decisions Barbara has made, and all the little things that some of us have been complaining about will snowball into this one horrendous film.
Agree totally.
Wonder if that might result in box office "failure", and Craig's departure, and a new, lighter direction?
Interesting.
It's been said before but it might as well be said again: SKYFALL does seem to have the potential to be a second THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH. *Shudder*

Pointless Guardian article suggesting Fiennes could become the next M.
Hopefully they kill her off in the beginning of the film so we don't have to watch another two hours of Bond being scolded by his granny.

Ah, a true Fleming fan, a fan of the real James Bond, the original, Bob Holness.
One who would never give in to those cinematic Johnny-come-lately cartoonist incarnations.

Sorry, this is not going to create emotion on the level of "I have been and ever shall be your friend."
It might not even create the emotion of hearing "I'm forever your girl" even.
Just hazarding a guess, but this will play about as memorably as Clancy Brown's death in BUCKAROO BANZAI (you didn't even remember he was in that movie, did you?)
I'm also reminded of Dino DiLaurentis disparaging JAWS: when jaws die, nobody cry. When Kong die, EVERYBODY cry. uh-huh

It ceratinly would be interesting if Bond killed her, though I cannot think of any reason why he would within the context of the story without straying into Bourne territory.

I was gonna say that my post was a joke, but maybe I'll take your "straying into Bourne territory" comment as one.
It'll be a miracle if they stray out of it.

Well, your post got me thinking: how could Bond reasonably kill M as a part of the story?
Some of Sam Mendes' recent comments twigged with me, where he said he wanted to take a look at the history of the Double-Oh Section. This, combined with my speculation that Raoul Silva could have been the man who was supposed to be 007 and your very valid point that a non-British national could not hold such a position made me think of an irregular army like the Special Operations Executive - that the Double-Oh Section started out as an off-the-record organisation that continued on after SOE was formally closed down.
With the plot of the film revolving around some secret of M's that was once hidden but is about to become fully-realised, I had the idea that M could be using the Double-Ohs for unauthorised assigenments, hiding behind the clandestine nature of the organisation. And although Bond would never have been a party to one of these illegal operations, he discovers it as a matter of course and realises that M is corrupt. He is therefore forced to kill her because she is a threat to the country.
Of course, that's exactly what Alexander Conklin and Ward Abbott did in THE BOURNE SUPREMACY - they used stolen CIA funds to buy up oil futures in the Caspian Sea through an intermediary that turned the company into one of the biggest in Russia. When a Russian politician found out about it, Conklin and Abbott used the newly-recruited Jason Bourne to kill the politician off, covering up the crime.

I voted no more emo crap but thats just me!
Bond could pull a Pushkin on M to allow her to retire of course which neatly avoids too much emo, but I'm not sure I am that lucky and the Twilight crowd probably wouldn't be pleased at the potential loss of wallowing misery potential.

Bond should pull a Pushkin and put her in the diplomatic bag.
