Just suspended j7. Feel crap about it, as the guy just stood there and let me shoot. Received a frustrated but understanding PM from him beforehand. We need to get our policies in place and move on. We can discuss j7's future (if he has one here) in due course when things are less heated. He's currently suspended until Christmas Eve, just in case we forget about him and he's short on Christmas cards. I'm hoping we can all reach an understanding or compromise before then though. For instance, if we allow him back for Skyfall, he may just blend in and talk about the film instead of politics. I don't know....

You're a nice guy, M.

But just remember, all we're talking about is posting privileges on a website. This is not a matter of life and death. I'm sure J7 feels a sting, as any of us would, but he'll get over it and move on. There is no end to the number of websites he can join, and I daresay he'll find some that are more suitable to his personality.

Thank you M, I can now sleep soundly at night. I like all of the suggestions folks have raised (new code of conduct, a mod only section etc.) and I wish I could contribute something myself, but honestly I'm burnt out, which is one of the main reasons why I wanted to leave. No Ambler, no Santa, and I find myself discussing the same things over again. Ambler in particular I miss, because without him it's hard for me to be funny., which is why I haven't been myself for the last couple of months. I need someone to play off - the other half of a double act.

I love you all of you guys (ok, maybe not all, but still) but I need a break to recharge my batteries, at least until Ambler boomerangs back and SKYFALL's score/theme song hit the world.

Good night.

Well, given that Skyfall's song should hit the world within the next month, I'd hope this won't be such a long absence, Sharky.

I'll just take this opportunity to categorically state that I don't hold the actions of any mod in the j7 matter against them. People had every reason to feel unconsulted, aggrieved, etc, and even things like editing posts in dark attempts at humour can be overlooked, given that the person on the receiving end was often guilty of far worse. I'm not condoning such actions by any means, but I unintentionally dumped on the lot of you by reinstating j7 and then being distracted before I could inform any of you what was going on. I acted quickly in order to stop other members I value highly from leaving. I trust the mods here 100%, they do a brilliant job here and I hope none of them are thrown by this whole affair.

The discussion of the upcoming Bond film will be better here than anywhere else on the internet, I'm convinced of that, the intelligence level here is pretty sky high and I'm so proud to be a part of these forums in the company of so many great and articulate members. Onwards and upwards, people. We'll get to where we want to be as long as we all stick these kind of situations out.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I want these forums to be a product of the members, not some invisible, unreasonable and unapproachable hierarchy, so if there's anything bothering anybody or any ideas anybody has to improve things around here, you know how to contact me.

Thanks for your patience through this whole situation. I wasn't even what you'd call a huge Bond fan when I set these forums up on Lazer's behalf but, thanks to you people, I've invested myself in this place far, far more than I ever thought I would.

Keep up the good work, you're all an absolute credit to this place. I don't want ANYBODY beating themselves up over the way the j7 thing was handled. Leave that to me, I'm as guilty as anyone if not moreso. Let's just move on and prove why this place is the best forum to discuss Bond and anything else.

Much respect,

M

Actually, after his first post in the film obituraires thread - in response to Tony Scott's suicide - someone edited j7's post to include "Edit: I'm a c***", but it was quickly removed.

Why didn't you take a screenshot of that? You seem to be the only one who saw it.
I tried to, but it was edited back out before I could.

PostSubject: Re: Problem Members   Problem Members - Page 25 EmptyThu Aug 23, 2012 3:43 am

Okay, here's my stance on what should happen:

First of all, I don't understand why j7 was allowed back. I believe that even before he was banned, he had had far too many chances around here and should have been banned months ago. The decision to allow him back baffles me. He contributes nothing to the forums at all, and whoever allowed him back should have realised that doing so would be very controversial. They should have had the foresight to realised that it was never going to go over well with everyone else.

That said, I think the only thing we can do now is leave him be for the time being. He gets one chance, and if he crosses it, he gets banned. Forever, with no questions asked.

In order to facilitate this, I think the forums need an enforceable set of rules that all forum users must agree to when registering, and which the moderators can quote when carrying out their duties as moderator. I used to be a moderator over at GTPlanet, which has an Acceptable Use Policy:
Quote :
By using these forums, you agree to the following:

- You will post all messages in English.
- You will not use “textspeak” (“r”, “u”, “plz”, etc.) in your messages. Decent grammar is expected at all times, including proper usage of capital letters.
- You will not behave in an abusive and/or hateful manner, and will not harass, threaten, nor attack any individual or any group.
- You will not knowingly post any material that is false, misleading, or inaccurate.
- You will not post or link to content that is obscene or sexually oriented.
- You will not use profanity in the forums, nor link to content which contains offensive language without sufficient warning.
- You will not post advertisements or solicitations outside of designated areas or without proper authorization.
- You will not post any person’s private information within the forum but your own.
- You will, if asked by a representative of the forums, cease posting any content.
- You will not use these forums to violate any laws nor to discuss illegal activities.
- You will not use these forums to impersonate any person or entity, disguise the origin of any posting, nor collect or store personal data about other users.
- You will not use these forums for the purposes of sharing or distributing viruses, licenses, registration information, software keys, pirated commercial multimedia files, “cracks”, or other information designed to do harm to or allow unlawful access to any computer software or systems.
- You will not attempt to access any protected section of the site, nor make any attempt to bypass or modify the features of the forum software.
- You remain solely responsible for anything found within your posts and agree to indemnify and hold GTPlanet and its affiliates, sponsors, or other partners and employees harmless from any claim or demand, including reasonable attorneys’ fees, made by any third party due to any material you post to or transmit through the forums.
- Violation of these rules may result in termination of your account or your ability to access the GTPlanet website, and your service provider(s) may be notified. GTPlanet expressly reserve our rights under the law to take any other actions we deem necessary, and may remove posts or withdraw membership at any time for any reason.
When issuing warnings, infractions and bans, moderators simply point to whichever section of the AUP the user in question is in violation of.

In terms of a moderators' code of conduct, I don't think it is necessary. However, the very first forum I joined (which, sadly, has sicne been shut down because it got too expensive), used what was dubbed "modspeak". If ever a moderator was taking action against something, the would post the message in blue font. This let everyone know that they were moderating, and that the post should be observed. If they posted in standard black font, it was just a normal post. Perhaps the moderators could consider this (or something similar in future).

What a paradox....your second paragraph totally contradicts the first...why are you now offering him another chance after you said he had far too many, never deserved the previous one and just got another suspension? WTF?

It means he'd going to go along with how M wants to handle it, despite his own objections to j7wild being readmitted.

I have the ability to ban j7wild and I would jump at the chance, but I'm going to respect M's wishes despte not agreeing with him. He's the top dog here.

Because this way there can be no cause for debate if j7 does get banned and we can avoid another messy situation like most of the past fortnight. Reinstate him, and make it very clear that he has one chance. So long as he does not break the rules, there can be no cause for contention.

All I'm saying is that we should start anew. Judge j7 on what he does when he does it, rather than holding his past transgressions against him. Does he deserve that much? Personally, I don't think he does - but if doing this protects the integrity of the forums, then I think it's the best way forward. Like I said, for the past two weeks, most of the damage around here has been done by other people. j7's actually benn pretty good about it all.

That's basically the majority opinion around here. I'm not going to plea-bargain another 500+ posts on it because it's all been said already, repeatedly. Whoever wants to continue this should probably consider OCD classes. I can chase my own tail...only so much. :study:

Agreed.

And although I know you don't agree, I think J7 should now be banned because his mere presence here, regardless of whether or not he breaks any formal rules, will be a source of anger and controversy. Bottom line, this site is better off without him.

'Tis going to be a fairly awful Christmas for some around here if they wake up and find JWild has been unwrapped and left under the B&B tree.

God didn't make him this way. He was born Ambler and he should stay Ambler. I don't like this "BondLover12". Sounds like a name someone would create for a NAMBLA mailing list.

BondLover12 entertained a certain legend on the old MI6. If it's Ambler, fine. If it's BL12, fine. God knows the options.

I'd say let Ambler have his fun but it'll run and run under multiple accounts. Masquerading as BL12...well, it'd be a rollercoaster.

If it is BL12, my God.... [Walken tone] how did he find us?

BL12 is a laugh riot. He popped into the Bond film elimination thread and and put a plus vote on the only Brozzer film left and a negative on FRWL laugh

And then there is this nugget.
