As I was told by a girl that I'm not a real man I'm not sure I even qualify myself.

Yes, I worked with her tonight. Don't know what to say to that one, really. Quite demeaning.

Yes I would, gladly. I did fancy her and she was into me but I didn't ask her out and she said some months later after dating another guy at work "I've got a real man now" and gave a wicked kind of laugh. She said "sorry" afterwords but it kind of hurt and maybe I deserved it. Didn't help that I was depressed as hell at the time. I think she thought I led her and then didn't ask her out and girls seem to hate that stuff.
Yep... She said that because she was upset/hurt that you didn't ask her out and it was the only way she could justify it. Like only a real man could handle her or have the guts. It's BS. Even if you had led her, it was a mean thing to say.

Had you been as spiteful as she was, you could have said that a real woman would have a) asked you out, and/or b) understood how hard it is for guys to take that first step. But that would be mean. The fact that she said it after months of dating someone else is telling. About her.

It drives me nuts when I hear men or women talk of "real" men or women. It's rarely to point out the good in the "real" and usually to make some badly veiled insult at someone else.

Thanks for explaining it. I thought as much, though I'm not very well used with the dating game at all and it has put me off women for good. I never did have much confidence in myself and now I have even less. As Ian Fleming said, most people in relationships eventually subtract from each other rather than add up to anything. Her boyfriend is a real arsehole too. I don't think I'll ever settle down as I can't hack women at all. Better off alone. I'm very cynical about love, I'm afraid.

That's fear talking, Brian, and you're deluding yourself. Women are the only reason men exist.

That said, it's always interesting to see natural selection at work.
I think you have got your wires crossed. Everyone is different, after all. Not everyone is super-confident. Men exist. Women exiast. Ultimately we all exist whether we pair up or not, surely?

Also, not sure what you mean by natural selection as that hopefully went out with the Hitler tyrrany and 1945 unless it is a very thinly veiled dig at my unsuitability for mating?

I would never sully myself with Star Trek, do not fear!

Thanks for your advice anyway, but I'm too self-conscuious to ever dabble in that again. I prefer the shadows to the light.

Seriously, Bri, get over yourself. RSI in your right wrist is very uncomfortable and Rohypnol is illegal.

Have a shower, dress up nice, take a Xanax, have a drink and go to some kind of nerdy event where the women will be unthreatening. Give her plenty to drink, hope she has as little self-esteem as you do, and keep the lights off. It's really not that hard.

Maybe, but I'm not the one having trouble with the opposite sex.

Aaaah, now I'm beginning to understand. Every closet has a door, Bri. All you need to do is open it.

I don't need a woman to make me complete althopugh some women simply don't understand that. If I've lived this long without them, I'll get by just fine. And I regularly meet young and available women in my work. The Quantum of Solace clause means I subtract a lot.

Pleased to hear it. Relying on the opposite sex rarely results in an accurate sense of self but at the same time you make yourself sound very sad and lonely. There's nothing wrong with a deep, warm kiss or some hot and dirty sex every now and again. Neither food, fast cars nor gambling are suitable substitutes. Nor comic books.
