Star Wars Holiday Special?

I vaguely remember that.

I don't think I'd ever seen it.

It was broadcast in 1978.

November 17th according to wiki.

We came to the U.S.A. in August 1977.

We didn't have a TV for like the first few months we were here and then after we did get one, since we were still kids and strangers in a new world,

Dad was very strict on what we watched and when we watched and how much we watched.

Yeah, I rented The Holiday Special and ripped a copy. I've never made it very far watching it. I think the first 15 minutes is all Wookiee speak.

I see the 2 trilogies are out as 'Limited Edition' movies-only Blu-Ray steelbooks for ... well, seemingly no other reason than squeezing yet more money out of Star Wars completists.

Thought it might have been something to do with the 30th anniversary of ROTJ, but doesn't seem to be :| .

The trashing of beloved characters is a massive turn-off as well, something else the prequels were massively guilty of. It's saying something when I'd rather see a Star Wars film without Han Solo in it than one with him. Ditto Luke, Leia etc. If people thought that the prequels "raped childhoods", they ain't seen nothing yet.

It's hard to say. I don't know who would bring back the characters in worse condition: Lucas or Abrams. The only hope I do see with Abrams is that he didn't bring in his hack writing team, so he has to work with someone else's script. Hopefully a script that's actually pretty good. If this had Kurtzman, Orci and Lindelof's prints, I wouldn't give a single shit about this film. They're a writing team that make Purvis & Wade look like Maibaum and Mankiewicz.

I don't think I can recall ever hearing that claim. All art direction and no story, maybe; all mood and no story, probably; all pretty pictures and no story, definitely. (not that I agree with any of those, though I still hold that you could shoot DO ANDROIDS DREAM OF ELECTRIC SHEEP and have something only faintly resembling BR that would stand on its own and probably inspire as many debates, even withOUT the unicorn.)

Shoot, there are only something like 70 VFX shots in the whole movie (a third of 2001's total, which relates as both have sustained shots rather than quickies like SW's 365), not counting monitor burn-ins.
