I'm happy to see its return as well and I expect Mendes to handle it properly. Renard wasn't a bad henchman but we haven't gotten a GREAT henchman since... Xenia really if you don't count Kaufman's brief screentime.

I'll agree with that. I really like the slickness and comfort Brosnan has in DAD. All the crazy shit going on around him and he just takes it in stride, as I expect Bond would.

Ah, the two greats of the 90's and arguably some of the best of all time...... Xenia and Kaufman....... It's been a long while since we've seen that quality in a Bond henchman/woman. EON, if you're reading this, make sure to bring back a Kaufman style character one day - that would be chilling!

I'll second that. Brosnan was arguably best with DaD. Almost approached Connery/Moore levels of superconfidence and we'd not seen that since Moore's run ended in 1985.

Agreed. I'm interested in seeing how Mendes creates a lasting impression with him...

I'm hoping that he's going to have a distinct fighting style. Craig's encounters to date - Obanno, Slate, Patrice - have all been close-quarters brawls, so he hasn't really encountered someone with the discipline of a martial art. I don't know what Batista's particular style is, only that he fought in mixed martial arts for a while. The henchman doesn't have to have an exotic style, like krav maga or Brazilian jujitsu, just something distinct. Like judo, which features a lot of grappling and throwing.
It would also play with audience expectations. Batista is a big guy; taller and broader than Craig. He's got a wrestler's physique, and several prominent tattoos. So we see him and we immediately think of him as a brute or a brawler. I don't think people would expect him to fight with the kind of speed, discipline and grace that you find in Asian martial arts.
It's a bit like what Christopher Nolan did with Tom Hardy in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES - he's absolutely brutal in his fighting, but he's also very eloquent. And with the mask covering his face, there's a mismatch between his words and his actions, which I felt was a good quality for the character; interesting and original without aping Heath Ledger (which would have been easy to do).

Is he meant to be Jinx's bad-ass brother? Maybe he's looking to settle a score with 007 for banging his little sister and then leaving her in the middle of the night without putting any money on the dresser for cab fare.
Seriously, they need to ditch the name. It's awful. Bloody, bloody awful.

That's what some were saying about the name 'Skyfall' too....defecating all over it...and it still earned 1.1bn.

Skyfall is catchy and a great descriptive title: as far as MI6 is concerned the sky does indeed fall in. Plus it has that in one-word cachet so beloved of Hitchcock and copywriters.

Three plausible explanations spring to mind:
1) It's a placeholder name because Purvis/Wade/Logan can't think of an actual name ... which doesn't sound right. If you were going to do that, then surely something like "Smith" or "Johnson" would be more likely.
2) It's a placeholder name because the actual intended name gives away too much about the character, and/or EON sre being careful about information leaking.
3) "Hinx" is indeed the character name, and there is some kind of story behind it. EON reportedly want a character in the Red Grant mould, so I Googled "Hinx", and the first hit I got (outside reports of Batista's casting) was a commune in south-western France. Perhaps the character is an orphan or abandoned in the town, and took the name of the town as his own. Okay, that's lame, but it's all I can come up with.

Perhaps. We know that there is apparently some kind of connection to France by way of Seydoux's character, but that same character was rewritten from Scandinavian to French at some point.
I stress that this theory is the result of two minutes on Google, though. It's an oddly specific name, so I'm working off the assumption that there is a reason behind it. This is all that I could come up with - a child abandoned in the town, and the local abbot drunk as a skunk when he filled in the paperwork. I'm not sure how France fits into it all, though. Maybe the villain is French. I've heard Chewitel Ejiofor mentioned as a potential villain; maybe he's Franco-Congolese or some such.
