The outcome? Gravity was banned (with all of his posts wiped off) and Righty suspended. God knows why Blofeld's still there. Blofeld's been suspended as well. But he will go back to his old ways once suspension ends on September 3rd.
Are you CBn's 'The Shark'? I sure am. Tried my best to stay out of the whole ordeal. From what I've gathered, it's got a few echoes of the spynovelfan-Rachel Weisz mess last year. |

| No shit. 2011 seems to be a bad year for the big Bond forums.
That's the thing I forgot about MI6: The constant bickering between members. None of that has happened here. Another reason why I find this site a major improvement over the old MI6. |

| There was a fall out between the owners of the MI6.com domain name and the owners of MI6 forums. The board needed serious update, and we were well aware one was on the cards, just not when. All of a sudden, Tux gets a 30 minute warning, and we can't post. A link appears to the "new MI6 forums", which we now dub Twitbook.

'Nuff said.
We were given an unspecified amount of time to save our old posts, and then within a few hours they were all gone. |

Which we did. Word still managed to spread despite the mods efforts at retaining the non-mod old timers. |

| It's a shame that CB.n is sliding. Though I was never a regular visitor, I've always regarded CB.n as MI6's do-gooder, buttoned-up cousin (not in a negative way!) so it's a shame to hear the fabric of the forum has been sullied by trolls and yoof. |

Respect. Thanks....I think (but who told you that? How did you know? Not that I'm admitting anything.) However, to be completely accurate, I was only suspended from MI6. They sent me an email at the time stating that it would last a few days and then I could reapply (like they were some sort of country club or something) if I would send them an email apologizing for disturbing the other posters and laying out a plan for how I intended to correct my behavior (if I recall correctly). Of course nobody puts Gravity in a corner, so I rejected their idea and just moved on to CBn. I was there for a little over 5 years before I was, I guess, banned. I never got an email, a thank you card, a cease-and-desist/restraining order from Jim. It's like he doesn't love me anymore. Nobody explained anything. I just tried to log in a few days ago and found I couldn't and that all my posts had been deleted. Not only do I appear to have been banned from CBn, but apparently I was so disreputable that Jim had to put up a poll asking members to vote on who should be 'booted' from the boards. I got more votes than the other leading brands combined!!! I even got more votes than Robert Mugabe, who I think is some sort of Chinese dictator or something over in Africa. But like Q said in the universally agreed Best Bond Movie Ever, THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH, "Always have an escape plan." Knowing that this day would eventually come, I had registered Gravity's Silhouette here at Bond and Beyond a few months ago and had been sporadically posting. Apparently I was "disturbing" the other forum members and "upsetting" the peace by daring to suggest that maybe Barbara Broccoli was whoring out the James Bond series by having Daniel Craig dress up in a....dress, stockings, pumps, and platinum blond wig. Or that the next James Bond actor does not "need" to be black, or female (because, uh, Ian Fleming didn't write him that way). Apparently those are very insensitive things to say. Lastly, I would say that I absolutely have no hard feelings about my experience at CBn at all. I totally get that it's their forum to run; I don't have a "right" to post there; this is not a free-speech issue. I'm only there at the pleasure of the moderators. However, I would suggest that the limited "moderating" that gets done there (though there's not much evidence of moderating; only banning and suspending when the situation gets out of control) is basically hypocritical and one-sided. People are routinely attacked on a personal level by other posters, but you are just expected to accept it. Not only are you expected not to respond or defend yourself, but you're to expect that the moderators won't do anything about it either (if they don't like you). Before I was disavowed, disgraced, and disowned by CBn, I left this bit of wisdom on the boards when Righty007 was declaring CBn dead: " Goddammit, you bitch! You never backed away from anything in your life! Now fight! Fight! Right now! Do it! Fight goddammit! Fight! Fight! Fiiiiight!" That's me. I'm a fighter, not a martyr. I'm not going to play any of these politically correct crap games that they like to play at MI6 or CBn, so if that's a problem we need to address that right now. As long as nobody attacks me on a personal level we'll be fine. About me: Roger Moore is my favorite Bond. Icebreaker is my favorite novel. Well, that's enough about me. |

I *get* that some people have objections to the death penalty for various reasons, but you have to also respect people who don't have a problem with the death penalty, and by "death penalty" in this case I'm referring to Bin Laden's execution back in May. Apparently it was even taboo among some at the CBn forums to express any sort of satisfaction or relief that Bin Laden had been assassinated. When it comes down to having to defend yourself for being glad that a mur-diddly-urderer of thousands of innocent lives is dead, you know we're not living in normal times anymore. |

Sad but true. So TLD has become your favorite Bond film, GS? It's my 2nd favorite Bond film so I'm always glad to read of appreciation for it. |

It's taken me a long time to say that because I didn't care much for it when I was 16 way back in....well, never mind that. But I think it almost takes an adult to appreciate TLD, and I've certainly felt in our "post 9/11 world" that the film is much more accessible and topical than before. And, it's not like there were never parts I didn't like...I always liked Kara and Brad Whitaker and Necros and Dalton's constantly smarmy, annoyed, 'I'm-smarter-than-all-of-the-rest-of-you' look. I think TLD represents the complete package for a Bond film; it has a romance you can believe, credible action sequences, and a fairly complicated, twisting plot. Roger Moore is still the best Bond, with Octopussy coming in just slightly behind TLD. Then my #3 film is FROM A VIEW TO A KILL. THUNDERBALL is probably #4, with DIE ANOTHER DAY #5. |

I can only imagine what the reaction would've been like if the old MI6 forum was still around at that time. Saint Mark would come in with his usual jibes at Imperialismo Yankee, shadowonthesun would be tut-tutting in 2000+ word posts, and CASINOROYALE would be declaring that Bin Laden's demise would be the basis for his next film (which, like all his other cinematic offerings, would be little more than hyperactive kids with plastic guns filmed on an inexpensive camcorder). And, of course, at the first hint of actual debate, the mods would come in and close up shop. |

CASINOROYALE taking out Bin Laden would actually be my most anticipated release of the year, that is if the boy wizard were to embark on such a project. Screw Spiderman, Superman and Batman, the sight of our dome-headed hero leaping out from behind his garden hedge with his plastic Walther to stick two in the head of his boot polish-smeared, turban-wearing mate to the strains of David Arnold's masterpiece The Dead Don't Care About Vengeance would be the movie highlight of the year beyond question. If we suggested the idea of CASINOROYALE vs BIN LADEN to him, he'd probably go and film it. Is he still on MI6Book? Actually, that's a pretty big slap in the face if even CASINOROYALE buggered off in protest. Wonder if he knows how to shoot in 3D? |
