New teaser with some new footage, including Bond and 007 going full Top Gun.

NTTD at 154 is already WAY too long as the goal is to get a Bond film to two hours or under to do it justice and maintain swift pacing. With current trends for action films and soulless superhero tentpoles it is now seen as not only allowable but par for the course to hit a 2.5 hour runtime for no reason other than sloppiness in plotting, writing, direction and editing. It used to be that theater owners couldn't get in as many showtimes and thus everyone made less money so you had to be 2 hours and less.
CR06 hitting the OHMSS runtime and slightly exceeding it was nuts and the overlength is one of the biggest downfalls of the film. OHMSS is a reel or two longer because the story is more intimate and the goal was to tell Fleming properly in a more realistic manner. The 144 min runtime doesn't go too far and never overstays its welcome because every scene is essential and perfectly told so that it doesn't go on for little to no reason as the modern films do. Plus by the late 60's there was a shift that allowed for films to become more expressive and longer if necessary due to studios losing grip and the counterculture expanding.
The near 3 hour NTTD is obviously a tabloid mention of either the rough workprint or the full assembly which is supped to run long. An assembly merely puts every scene in order without any edits so they run hours and hours and are painful to sit through. That's likely what the 4 hour TWINE is and of course the legendary 4+ hour TB that Peter Hunt had to cut solo under immense pressure forcing UA to push the release date to Xmas 1965 to at least give him just long enough to finish.
TND for example has a number of cut bits removed for pacing or being unsatisfactory-plus it was directed by the former editor of Peckinpah so it is cut on a literal dime and perfectly edited to clock in right at 1 hour 57 min which helps to hide all the scripting problems and production difficulties.
On the other hand TWINE had removed sequences and of course the well known PTS shift but is also a more somber affair with slower pacing. With it already being longer and more languid in how it moves I'd guess it's original post-assembly first cut was probably in the neighborhood of 2 hrs 20min
As always, hard to disagree with. As you allude to, many of the scenes in CR06 are so superfluous and not essential to Le Chiffre's plot or Bond's relationship with Vesper, particularly in the first half, that it becomes tiresome and frustrating in equal measures. It's too long, and apparently it wasn't enough time since Eon still tying up loose ends.

Yeah, thought the same AMC. Interesting Bond isn't steering the ship in his own film... or flying the plane, so to speak.
Also, interesting lighting behind Malek at the 23 second mark. Please don't let it be.

Calvin makes some pretty jarring observations from the new trailer. He's thought of things my pessimistic mind didn't even think of :
And also, he made a very interesting point about the masked man's bullet wound:
Could his heart be on the right side, a la Fleming's Julius?

Another forum I'm on has started a 'Let's apply the 'Joker' approach to other franchises!' thread, so I chipped in with this -
Blofeld
Realising that heading up an organisation responsible for global chaos doesn't compensate for being shunned by half-brother James, Ernst falls into a downward spiral of dry Martini and painkiller addiction in a twisted form of tribute to him. Screenplay by Phoebe Waller-Bridge (inspired by characters created by a spinning-in-his-grave-by-now Ian Fleming) and featuring an awards-worthy turn by Christoph Waltz. Directed by Denis Villeneuve.

Does not bode well. Immediately I thought of the switchblades and DN in terms of villain appearance. Ugh.

It's not the aircraft itself, or the reminder of DAD... I just wonder why Bond isn't flying it. Also, many are commenting on how relaxed/cool Bond looks when they're falling out of the plane... I'm not seeing that at all. He looks terrified.
Also been a lot of talk about all the shocked expressions Bond makes in these trailers. I feel like it's going to be a whole lot of "MADELEINE! LOOK AT ME!" overacting just like in SP.

Probably just along for the ride because of mission parameters or he's the aged retiree brought back in simply to advise or ride shotgun and of course has to take the reins cliche.

New trailer: It's embedded on Twitter which I can't load on my laptop for some reason, but if you're in the Ian Fleming Foundation group on FB, someone posted it. Napoleon Solo also linked it in his blog, The Spy Command - you just need to scroll to the bottom:
New exchange between Safin and Bond, which is quite ineffective. Some new stuff with Madeleine, a note presumedly from her that says 'Forgive me'.

Jayzus. Sounds like a boy scout crossed with a cliched superhero.

Watched the teaser thingy for the first time and nothing either has me beating a path to the cinema urgently or wanting me to like this film. Let's get it over with and get ourselves a new Bond and maybe a half decent film.

Not to mention that DN-lite response in the same scene. Really hope it isn't a scene of just half-assed comebacks:
"Only your skills die with your body. Mine will survive long after I'm gone." "History isn't kind to men who play god." "James Bond. I've made you redundant." "Not as long as there are people like you in the world" "I have a bigger penis" "It's not so much the size but what you can do with it"

We'll see if "this will change everything" is just a tagline or something substantive.
Whatever changes, let's face it, will probably be for the worse.
Also, are they digitally enhancing Cregg's eyes to make them bluer or something? I think that every time I see the trailer at the movies (particularly that "we all have our secrets" close-up). Just looks... cartoony? Also, am I paying too much attention to another bloke's eyes?

It's possible. Some have commented that something seemed to have been done to the colour of DeNiro's in The Irishman.

In other news, the run time has been announced at 165 minutes.
Almost makes Craig a longer serving Bond in minutes per movie too at 706 minutes (11.76 hours).

So the actual runtime is only 9 minutes shorter than the rumoured one? .
I can only hope it's justified, otherwise I will start to 'watch-glance'.

Uncharacteristically cynical of you, BI. Though, doubtful it will be justified.
